I would do one anyway and also a copy of her birth certificate. I've been stopped and questioned twice (at Gatwick, not Eurostar) and been asked to produce documents as my partner was not with us. Probably best to get the letter notarised as well...
I'm not married and have a different surname to my child which is the main reason, they need to check I'm really the mother. Think I've read you should do same if neither parent are travelling with the child...

I recently travelled to SA with my daughter and I had to have a parental form from my husband (signed and notarized as well as a copy of his passport, notarized).

This is a sample form from the SA embassy that you could adapt and use - we had it notarized by the solicitors in east dulwich (?30) - you need to have it noratised if you are going down this route for it to be valid, as well as a copy of your passport. ..... Don't be like me and arrive at the airport ready to fly without this!!!!! It took an almighty effort on the part of my husband to get this done and for us to still fly that night!!!

We took my niece to Disneyland Paris this year without her parents. We had a letter from them both giving permission. But we were never questioned about it. Probably because she is the spitting image of my daughter so they looked like sisters!

    • Hi. I’d like a recommendation for a driving instructor please? Manual car. Ideally patient and not costing the earth.    thanks in advance
    • I wonder if anyone can help.  My age 16 child has been forced to leave school due to prolonged ill health, onset after Covid.  It’s incredibly isolating and I was wondering if they are any local clubs (art perhaps) for her age group, or just meet ups in the area- perhaps other children out of school/ home educated who would be keen to meet.  Anything very active is out of the question- so sports wouldn’t be possible.  I’d be very interested in speaking to other parents in my position about how they manage.
    • I inherited an electric awning.  It's fab in this extreme weather in my south facing garden. Canvas now decrepit and needs replacing.  Over stretched. Anyone done this - know of anyone who can do this? Advice much appreciated. K.
    • I think that presumption's a false one and that there's no such requirement.  If in doubt try asking 'Who can make a planning application?'   So it's firm evidence at most of just their belief that they might be  setting up shop there.  Putting in an early anticipatory application for their display signage, to lessen any dead time waiting for the permission, might well be a worthwhile expense.  They don't seem to have withdrawn the application, so are at least presumably still interested in taking over the premises.
