Steeee-rrrrike one for Brendan.

Come and play with the thickos, Brendan. We've been smearing mud on each other's faces all morning while the smart kids have been away at the inter-school debating comp. Mr Maclaren's going to let us have a go with the boxing gloves after lunch.

Excuse me? Do I address you as Mister or Madam Chairman? I?m going to go with Madam for now unless informed to the contrary.

Excuse me Madam Chairman but the topic regarding the virtues of the two most well know brands of electric guitar has everything to do with why teenage boys shut themselves in their bedrooms.

Music, creative outlet, girls, sex and the pursuit of sex, personal identity, playing with things.

I feel that my contributions were perhaps misinterpreted.

Does this mean that any Drawing Room topic can be excluded from there by sabotage? Not that I'm saying you did this Brendan but 'The Chair' obviously considered your input as off topic. Surely the offending message should be zapped rather than moving us all into The Lounge.

The straights were always gonna come down heavy on freaks, Brendan. Don't sweat it man.

The establishment hates unfettered self-expression. Stay away from it, brother.

The establishment I mean, not the unfettered self-expression.

Remember the words of Karl Marx "I wouldn't want to be in a club that remembered me".

And the inscription on Buddy Guthrie's guitar "This machine head kills spastics".

Mind maybe old Buddy wasn't being too cool there.

Any how, remember the word pass? Don't Bogart that thing.

Ho-hum. Fender.

Any guitarist who has striven for years to make their own sound realises eventually that no matter what they play, it still sounds like them. e.g. SRV played Strats and Gibbos and sounded like SRV. As did Jimi. As does Keef (Richard). As does Townshend, etc, etc.

The sound is in the fingers, not the amp or guitar.

If you think most women would notice which guitar you are playing think you'd be mistaken. Am sure when it comes to pulling, it comes more down to the style and confidence with which someone plays than what guitar they play.

Jeremy, what i am referring to is players who develop an identity on the guitar. The identity comes through regardless of gear combination. Layering up different setups for working rhythm tracks or something would sound different admittedly, but for an activity level above that the player would shine through.

Fenders are harder to play, but due to the nature of the single coils I find them springier and more dynamic than humbuckers. Those who like them are prepared to put up with the hassle of effort and intonation to achieve the tone. I have both and use them for different jobs. I think most of the interpretation of the sound is by the player rather than the listener.

I think I started with Fender because of the shape which is obviously FAR sexier and modern than a LP.

I agree that a player's style will shine through, but surely they will find the gear that suits that style best. Hendrix may have used every guitar under the sun, but basicaly he was a strat man. Tony Iommi is an SG man, and Slash is a Les Paul man, yes they could play anything else, and keep their style, but their sound would be that bit different.

I prefer my classic good looks ;-)

I can do, but I am self taught, so probably don't do everything by the book, and may teach you bad habits.

Keef - fair play.

I was referring to a Strat in the sexiness stakes.

Adding to the 'unexpected' factor, the solo on 'Another Brick On The Wall' was a Les Paul, despite sounding like a Strat. And the lead on 'House Burning Down' was a Les Paul too, despite being Jimi. But what about 'Cause We Ended As Lovers'? Jeff Beck played a Tele with humbuckers on that. Don't think Fenders are right with 'buckers.

I basically like to play Fenders because they look nice, you can drop them and they still work and you can take them to bits. Plus my greatest heroes played them (mostly).

    • I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to kindly ask for your assistance regarding a car break-in that occurred today, around 2 PM, on Carson Road. A couple of bags (both khaki in color), a luggage, and a passport were stolen. The bags, in particular, hold significant sentimental value to me, and I would greatly appreciate any help in locating them. I am due to take a long-haul flight in two days, and any information regarding the whereabouts of these items would be incredibly helpful. If anyone has seen or come across these belongings, please feel free to reach out. Thank you in advance for your attention and support. Warm regards, Tanya
