Are you near ED station by any chance? I've had a couple of people ringing the doorbell in the last day or so. I don't bother answering as I can see from the upstairs window that they are selling something. (Shoulder bag, clipboard, name badge).

Persistent buggers, too. They come around a couple of times in the day, seeing if you are back.

Tell them to bugger off. Unfair on the poor individual, but the only way these companies will learn.

I had Sky call me last night offering me an extended warranty on my Digibox which I apparently now own. I quoted the Sale of Goods Act at them ("fit for purpose") and clearly sent the guy off his script.

Besides, even if my box broke down do Sky really think I am going to pay them for the privilege of replacing it? If they won't replace it, I'll just cancel...

danrees - the Sky box warrenty thing is a scam. The people who call you are not from Sky but from some dodgy company trying to make you feel paranoid about your Sky box and how much it would cost you if it broke down and had to be repaired/replaced. They got me a couple of years ago and I foolishly signed up (the thought of being without my beloved box sent me into paroxisms of fear!) I cancelled the agreement within 14 days and got my money back, but if they called again I'd give them short shrift.

    • That was when Antic ran it. For all their faults, they did have an in house policy of always having at least 1 lager and ale on tap that was affordable, and i dont know if anyone noticed (unlikely around East Dulwich as prices are rarely an issue here) but they always priced a dish of sausages and mash at an affordable price, around £8. The idea was that even those without wealth could still come to the pub and have a meal and pint.  I doubt that'll be the case now, with a new Pubco who own pubs in places like Bank, Fitzrovia, Clerkenwell and Highate Village.
    • Hi there, Just in case someone has too many coat hangers they no longer need.  Thanks!
    • They always used to have at least one (relatively) low priced ale on. Don't know about lager. And to be fair, if you are running this kind of  business, and the local demographic has changed around you, you have to allow for that or your business is going to fail.
    • Oh dear.  I've been there numerous times, it's hit and miss.  Generally OK so I wouldn't judge it on one occasion. Perhaps they aren't great at scaling up for sunny days.  The Woodhouse used to be like that when it was a great pub in the old days.  Sun would come out and families turn up, with no extra staff.  It's horrid now  You can order the Backyard pizza at the Castle and I expect they still have Van Dough at the Blythe; under Co you could also bring your chip supper into the garden.
