As stated on previous posts and threads, Il Mirto ranks above all these 'forementioned ersatz, pizza chains, with respect to value and quality. And they've done well enough, even in these straitened times, to consider knocking through to next door and increasing the size of the dining area. At least that's the missus was told by one of the proprietari 2 weeks back.

'In bocca al lupo' to them, and long may they stay away from the over-rated and over-priced LL!

Went to Il Mirto on Sunday having discovered to my distress that Magnolia wasn't serving mussels (they are out of season, apparently). Finally ended up shambling past Il Mirto and decided to risk it given the low prices. the food was really good - proper pizzas, not pre-made, nice pasta, some Sardinian specialities (the owners come from there). Cheap, cheerful and tasty. No licence so you can bring your own from across the road. They are hoping to move somewhere bigger in due course so they can expand the range of food they offer. Well worth a visit - don't think they get a lot of passing trade like you would on LL.

    • Loving the arm chair speculation on here  Blimey how long before this gets spun out to be a drug dealer welding a sawn off whilst driving away from a smash and grab at the coop cash machine flipped his car and landed on a bollard type post  Where's the green cross code man when you need him ?
    • If you haven't already watched this totally shocking docudrama on Channel 4 then make sure you watch it and tell everyone you know to watch It It lays bare the scandalous, harmful and lethal  (in some cases) behaviour of the water companies since privatisation.  I for one didn't realise that the water companies pay the regulator/environment agency to regulate them in one mega conflict of interest.   This is as shocking as the post office/postmasters scandal with even more far reaching consequences.
    • We have been going to Franklins for many years. On the whole we have found both the food and service extremely good,  and good value for money, but there have been one or two low points, including unfortunately a very expensive but disappointing  meal with friends which I was paying for. I think it may depend on who is in the kitchen. We had a really excellent meal from their Christmas menu before Christmas this year, which for the quality of the food and cooking we didn't feel was expensive at all. I think it would be a real shame if it was turned into a pub. It isn't that kind of place. That's why we like it.
