edhistory
Who gets to keep the removed kerb stones? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/71067-north-cross-road-lordship-lane-roadworks-dangerous/page/2/#findComment-890453 Share on other sites
Zebedee Tring
Maybe I'm being a bit slow, but how come the British standard kerb is shorter than the ED standard? Has ED declared UDI from the UK while I wasn't looking? Abe_froeman
Sorry, I was being a bit sarcastic about the monolithic new kerbstones they've installed at North Cross road and the Townley Rd / East Duwich Grove junction. I don't understand why they need to be so huge but at North X it maybe to do with containing gigantic ramp they've built. Zebedee Tring
Don't worry Abe, I was being sarcastic too! How can one not be enraged and/or sarcastic when one is faced with such gross incompetence. James Barber
These are all as per the Southwark Street Design Manual - and yes Southwark has decided to apply it's own standards. Expensive ones. Blah Blah
I just find it incredulous that stone has to come all the way from China! Price?Because that seems a rather short-term approach. I once worked somewhere which did that. They had windows fitted by the cheapest quoting contractor. The windows had to be replaced within a relatively short time. It would have been cheaper to pay more for higher standards in the first place. dbboy
What was wrong with the original kerb stones and why are they being replaced? Blah Blah
I also wonder why anything but essential repairs are being done given the massive cuts to LAs. Surely the money wasted of some road works could be better spent where it's needed more. first mate
Especially when you consider the stated reason for this work is to make the crossing a nicer experience..... Blah Blah
Indeed. I think there's an element of la la land in council planning.
