Reg Smeeton
Sorry for being obtuse, but where is this mystery Coal Line? Is it a torn up track immediately next to the existing line between Peckham Rye and Queens Rd Peckham, or is it a separate viaduct? Either way, is what's proposed basically a walkway/cycle way right next to the current trains? Nigello
It is a partly-used track - mostly on a viaduct, I think - that the developers want to turn into a walkable and cycblable pathway to link two parts of Peckham and to regenerate the areas throught/over which it passes. Reg Smeeton
BrandNewGuy Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> The map and diagrams on page 1 of this thread> should help you.I've looked at the map and diagrams. As far as I can tell, it's just the unused tracks directly next to the existing Peckham Rye to QRd Peckham line, so we're talking about a walkway/cycle way right next to the trains. Is that right? Not that I object, but I had in my head some idyllic disused viaduct floating quietly above the streets away from the hustle and bustle. Nigello
The PCL is looking for input from people: Also, part of the Peckham Coal Line project is to celebrate and record the heritage of SE15. By working with other local groups uncovering Peckham?s history, we want to collect and present memories people have of the area incorporating the coal yard, Bussey Building and Copeland Park Estate. What we'd like to end up with is a series of people profiles that, together, tell the story of the area from as far back as living memory allows to today. These might be people who remember when the yard was used for coal storage and distribution, through to the time before the Bussey Building and Copeland Park was turned into the thriving arts and community treasure it is today. If you?ve any suggestions as to who we should talk to, drop us a line at team@peckhamcoalline.org . edhistory
1. You could define the "Copeland Park Estate" by providing a map.2. If you know the original post code of the "Bussey Building" it would help with historical research.3. AND, what about an answer to the coal line access and gradient problems (both ends)?John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/70863-the-peckham-coal-line-urban-park/page/4/#findComment-929966 Share on other sites
edhistory
The original coal line sidings were a bit of an oddity. They were "foreign" railway lines. They were "owned" by the LNWR (London and North Western Railway). As "foreign" lines payment was required to the LB&SCR (London, Brighton and South Coast Railway) for the LNWR to run over the LB&SCR metals. Theses charges were calculated by the RCH (Railway Clearing House). So for history, a quick consultation with the NRM (National Railway Museum, about LNWR, LB&SCR, and RCH records relating to Peckham might prove productive. The RCH map of the LNWR sidings is readily available on-line.John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/70863-the-peckham-coal-line-urban-park/page/4/#findComment-930350 Share on other sites

TheCoalLine
Hi John K and Nigello, Thanks for your input into this thread. Please note we are volunteer run and don?t check in on East Dulwich Forum as much as we would like but if you sign up to the newsletter on the website you get regular updates on there. Otherwise if that?s not for you then there is also a blog section on the site which is updated with news (www.peckhamcoalline.org). Thanks for the info about the rail line John and regarding your query about the accounts publishing - we formed as a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) (Registered Charity Number 1165247) in December 2015. We had to have a minimum of 6 months before we could file accounts so we have only just entered the period in which we could actually do that however as is normal practice we will do the first set after a year so expect to see these in December 2016. This is also be when we hope the feasibility will be published, In the meantime if you want to get involved we?d love to hear from you. The project is as much about the journey and new local social connections as it is about the physical park, this is likely to happen in small stages over time.
