Kells
I'll look out for them, thanks. On the same lines, "A Piece Of Cake" by Cupcake Brown is well worth a read. Alex Wheatle is pretty good as well(and the books are set in and around Brixton). HonaloochieB
Was there not some question about whether the author had embellished the account of his descent into addiction and subsequent recovery? Keef
Am I the only one who thought this thread was going to be about the bible? I was imagining Sean getting ready to come in and pull it to pieces, but not to be. DaveR
"Was there not some question about whether the author had embellished the account of his descent into addiction and subsequent recovery?"You might say that - he got sued and fled the country!article Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7075-good-book/#findComment-226321 Share on other sites
reenie40
I think if you just view it as a piece of fiction and not 'one mans struggle to overcome addiction', the it's still a good read. Kells
I'm convinced, I have to read it now, even if just to see what all the controversy is about. Cynical marketing ploy? It worked. tinagwee
I just finished Defiance by Nechama Tek about a bunch of polish Jewish partisans living in the forests to escape the germans and how they took all Jews who found them in to save them, not like other partisan groups who only wanted armed and fit young men who could fight. True story and really interesting. Also Scum of the Earth by Arthur Koestler is really good and is about a journalist living in Paris in the lead up to world war 2 and his ensuing flight from the nazi's (he wrote anti-fascist stuff so was a target because of that as well as being jewish).Complicity or the Wasp Factory by Ian Banks are really good fiction too.
