Too hairy to count but no toe jam currently.

I think i should be allowed sweeping generalisations too once in a while, especially when arguing against the two guilty of the most sweeping generalisations on the forum. Plus if they can spout utter crap, why shouldn't i be entitled to do the same?

Normal service will be resumed when they stop their bigoted baseless tirades.

I think it only right MM that I have my say before any such action is taken on this or any other thread.

I've been extremely civil and polite throughout this while experiencing and witnessing more abuse, insults, smear, lies and downright rude, vulgar behaviour in the last week than I did in thousands of comunications on Blacknet, for example, where I debated (as often the sole non-African ) for 5 years and yet though we disagreed on many issues there was never anything approaching this type of aggressive ranting from members of Her Majesty's proud Middle Classes.

Naturally my reply will be civil, polite and respectful but, having been placed in the dock by the likes of Lindylou, Crystal Clear, Legalish and all the usual gang/clique ( which does not exist, repeat not exist,) and the other bog-standard suspects, I will, briefly, state what I did say.

I fear you may be the one who is the most guilty of such behaviour, I have requested you to point out in my 10 lines of posting in the 'queue jumping thread' which is the offensive part and you have not responded.

All I can do is ask!

Your constant mud slinging is infantile and unjustified, and as Marmora Man said, debate is preferable to censorship, as you ran for MP for the 'Greens' most people I'm sure would expect nothing less of such a political animal.

Nearly all immigrants have made difficult decisions, worked hard and made sacrifices to make a new life, often struggling to adapt to a new culture, raising families under difficult circumstances, studying/improving qualifications, making professional advancements, gaining useful skills.

They have too, sometimes, encounter prejudice, "invisible" walls and, in the much wider Society outside East Dulwich, a commonly held view that "they" do not belong here, or should not be here at all.

It certainly can't be easy and many make it, "despite" , not "because of" the system in the UK.

They deserve the utmost praise.

Knowing the above, however, does not stop me believing that, as by definition ( almost), every Refugee and Asylum Seeker is regarded as "homeless", that they then should automatically join the, relatively, small proportion of people of existing Brits who are also near the top of the Housing Points system as they are categorised in the same way and ABOVE everybody else who are already on the system and waiting and are not regarded as homeless.

Those people now pushed further down below them are also in need, sometines desperately so, and, by definition, their time on the Housing waiting list MUST be increased for every occassion that a person considered "homeless" is placed above them.

Obviously this problem has been exarcerbated by the widespread sale of housing stock.

The salient point is that while only a cetain percentage of people in need, currently on the national housing lists are regarded as homeless, nearly every Refugee and Asylum Seeker is regarded as such, and placed at the forefront of the queue, accordingly, joining everyone else who is categorised as such.

I do not agree that this is right.

p.s. I hope nobody minded that I did not making personal attacks or ranted. I'll leave that to the likes of Legalish, they are far better at it, having had more experience it seems.

Apologies for the lack of insults and foul language and personal insults which I can see really amuse some of EDF's finest.

Just for a refreshing change, why not comment on what I have just written.

This should be "interesting" as in "interesting"....

Sean, what that means is 'the same group of people, type the same sorts of insults, abuse and accusations, each time, when someone else, who has different opinions to them, types something they dont agree with or like' . It is a form of bullying. You can read so you can see this with your own eyes. If you cant see this, I can only think that it is not in your own personal interest to acknowlege it.

I thought Legal was ok before this, however it just goes to show, give someone enough rope, they hang themselves . Every time .

but daizie, Tony said...

"likes of Lindylou, Crystal Clear, Legalish and all the usual gang/clique ( which does not exist, repeat not exist,)"

so the 3 names he mentions he is correct to call out, he then goes on to tar "all the usual gang" with the same brush which I think is out of order

I admit to laughing when I first say the outburst by CrystalClear on the other thread but that was partly out of shock at how excessive it was. But I have also repeatedly said this thread should never have been started and have reported it myself to Admin - as I know others have.

The United Kingdom is a signatory to the 1951 United Nations Convention Regarding Refugees.

The obligations under this Convention, which was extended beyond Europe in 1967, are that refugees enjoy equal rights to UK citizens.

Asylum seekers, I believe are covered by the Geneva Convention, under which the UK is once again obliged to, with all due diligence, process and assess each individual applicant before either granting leave to stay or returning the person or family to their country of origin.

Refugees have all the rights a UK citizen possesses an asylum seeker does not.

Asylum seekers are not on council housing lists, because they are administered by the UK Border Agency part of the Home Office.

My understanding is that asylum seekers are entitled to certain benefits at 70% of normal income support.

Generally, they are housed in void housing stock, which local councils have been unable to let, or held in detention centres.

As for precedent, released prisoners have that don't they?

    • A quick Google search found this service in Devon including several large print books and a home delivery service for those that can't get to a library.  Might be worth a look if you haven't already considered this.  Good luck.   https://discover.librariesunlimited.org.uk/our-services

    • Bit over-stated that.  Fully-paved front drives cause same/worse issues.  The hermetically-sealed, boundary-to-boundary hard surfaces you see all over Dulwich prevent natural rainwater from continuing to nourish the dirt/clay under the house.  Houses around ED have very very shallow foundations which is the root cause, frankly.  I just spent a year renovating a house down to the foundations and they barely exist and the brickwork is easily disturbed by any ground movement. Last time I checked, humans can't breathe their foundations can they?  But most humans require oxygen...  This foundations trope is the go-to bogey man.  Defo not having a go at you Dave, I'm sure you'd prefer more trees to fewer trees, but short-term vs long term decisions must be made.  Choices: Do we want a fully-paved, grey, barren landscape or greenery with all the health & beauty benefits?
