Dear All,

I'm looking for an advice. I'm currently with Virgin media M size package ?50 (broadband, TV, phone). We don't use landline at all, watch TV on the catch up basis and Netflix etc. I would like to switch to Internet and Apple TV and possibly pay for the few apps to be entertained. We have smart TV with free view, so I guess there is a choice of channels to watch.

I've just started searching this subject and it's quite confusing.

Could you possibly please advise on the following:

1. What is the best Internet provider option in the area considering we don't have BT phone line. Our house is wired by some ancient company which BT does not recognise. I would like to avoid ?150 installation cost.

2. If you are already done it, can you recommend some PVRs, please? It does not have to be Apple TV It's appealing as it's cheap and it's got now TV.

Thank you in advance for all tips.

Best wishes!

Hey!

I have a projector and a chromecast. It is amazing. Haven't used a TV or a phone for years.

For broadband I use BT fiber - so unfortunately I do have a landline that I have to pay for but never use. The only reason for this is that virgin doesn't do broadband i my street. I used to have a setup with virgin about 2 years ago where i only paid for broadband - no TV, phone nothing - just the data.

I understand Virgin is the only company that will do you broadband without a landline. Mainly as all the rest use the copper that you'll only have if you have a BT line.

And though I didn't ever actually buy one, when I looked into PVRs last year I came to the conclusion that the best PVRs are made by Humax.

Thank you Fizzmoll,

Would you mind if I ask what is an approximate monthly cost with BT Internet. I was quoted ?35 for Internet only with 100Mb as an existing 8 years service customer, I was considering switching contact to my partner and gaining a benefits of being a new customer again. I know cheeky, but it's big savings long run. Thanks.

Thanks Loz,

I used to work for Loewe in the past. Beautiful TVs but still ongoing many changes. Our product specialists were recommending humax and roku, but still can't see much difference in all of them. Thanks for insight. I will keep researching.

Hey apod,

On the virgin web site, they advertise a 100 meg broadband only offer for 33.50 per month - http://store.virginmedia.com/broadband/compare-broadband/100mb.html

With BT, I think I pay ~45 pounds a month. The BT service is rock solid (fiber all the way into the house) but I think I would probably still go with Virgin if I could. They are cheaper but perhaps more importantly feel more modern in their business strategy than BT. imho.

good luck with finding a good deal!
