PRM21
Another four benches have now been stolen. This happened on monday night. They were the brand new benches out on the common. Please be vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police immediately.Apparently the thieves are now so brazen that they will just stick a high viz jacket on to make people think that they are working for the council and then just steal what they want.If you feel safe enough and see someone removing a bench ask them for some form of identity or make a note of the vehicle registration and report it to the police. Council workers will be uniformed and in marked council vehicles. Contractors working for the council should be able to produce proof of this. If in doubt, call it in.Please help if you can. sophiesofa
that is awful. I hope none of the original ones were memorial ones. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6939-bench-theft-from-peckham-rye/#findComment-222086 Share on other sites
parsnip-io
That really is the lowest of the low. Can the benches not be marked in anyway to deter thieves - e.g. deep carved inscriptions? If these are commemorative benches perhaps carving the inscription would lessen their desirability (rather than brass plaques that are screwed on, and can be removed)? A more expensive process, but if benches are going to replaced every time they are stolen possibly more cost-effective in the long-run?Just so depressing. thexwinglessxbird
ARGH! Peckham is full of vulgarness. You'd think of all places they'd have benches clamped into the ground. thexwinglessxbird
Many of them are, but aparently these ones are not. Which suprises me, considering the area. lenk
Someone from ED couldn't possibly have stolen them? Or Nunhead? Or Barking? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6939-bench-theft-from-peckham-rye/#findComment-222167 Share on other sites
thexwinglessxbird
Somebody from ED or Nunhead could have well stolen them, but what I was getting at is that Peckham tends to attract the weird ones. Louisa
Well lets not get too hung up on Peckham Rye being in Peckham, it's in ED as we all know. I've been told clowns from Forest Hill often invade the park at night searching for new ways to steal benches, those depraved b*stards. Louisa. Xena Worried prince
A cunning way to spot the thieves, it is obvious that someone in a Reflective Yellow Jacket appearing to do work isn't from the council... have you ever seen a council workman work ? >:D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6939-bench-theft-from-peckham-rye/#findComment-222432 Share on other sites
