Me and Mrs Mark are thinking of heading to Mexico in October, probably flying to Cancun and heading off down the coast for a couple of weeks for some sightseeing, diving and some beach action. So far we've only been told to avoid the American high school holiday period and I've a Lonely Planet book in the post but was wondering if anyone's got any interesting recommendations they'd like to share.

Thanks in advance

Dont drink the water, and only eat freshly cooked food. Take insurance which covers you for bandit attacks if at all possible.

The Danish football team, having whupped Uruguay 6-1 when Uruguay were top of the South American league, were brought to their knees by swimming in the hotel pool and eating the local food, they had all the food flown in from Denmark from then on, but the damage was done weakened by Montezuma's revenge.

    • There are moves to place Thames Water into a SAR (Special Administration Regime) effectively renationalising it and wiping out its debt.  But then what ?  There is also rumours of lookmg for a new owner, including a Chinese backed group that already owns Northumbrian water and UK power.  Is that a controversial move as it places another of our inferstructural assets in foreign hands?  Should it be renationalised and run as a not for profit government organisation, placing investment and improvements before  shareholders? This in itself would adversely impact pension funds who have invested in utilities.  Its fairly obvious that Thames Water needs rescuing or restructure but what is the optimum and correct path to take ?
