What is wrong with this forum? (non ED issues being moved to Lounge)

Recommended Posts

Is there a problem with the way this forum is run? I've noticed that major stories of interest to East Dulwich - such as significant crime or today's fire in the Camberwell tower block - are relegated to the lounge, while the main part of the forum is full of rubbish about lost cats, where the best chips can be found, and the latest pointless boutique opening on lordship lane.

What is the problem? Small-minded moderators? Lack of perspective? A preoccupation with shopping?

This is truly a very weak forum, and East Dulwich deserves better.

Josh, consider the titles of the sections.

They're clear.

GENERAL ED ISSUES AND GOSSIP by its very title implies that anything to do with something happening in, say, Camberwell, would not be an appropriate place.

See where we're going?

As I wrote after your post on the other thread, the Camberwell fire thread is appropriately placed, as it is in The LOUNGE, ie, other NON East Dulwich things that we are interesting in discussing.

Go on, you can get with it, I know you can.

Do try and relax - and have fun, and do remember that to the people in East Dulwich whose cats are missing or have died, they MATTER. This is a community. Welcome and play nice!

Surely major events in neighbourhoods directly next to ED are of interest and importance to people who live in ED?

Thanks for some sense. It doesn't deserve to be put in the lounge, which is dedicated to idle chat and trivial jokes does it? It's a serious matter not a source of cheap puns.

If you can't make a sensible response you can always resort to personal insults can't you?

Do you think a major fire in which people have died should be in the lounge, so you can carry on speculating on where the next M&S Simply Food might open?

But it doesn't work well. The main part of the forum is effectively the lounge as it's full of small talk. Is there a problem with heavy-handed moderation?

Again, you're the one making personal attacks, not me. I'm simply criticizing the editorial policy that puts a tragic fire in the section dedicated to off-topic waffle and jokes.

If you can't make civil or sensible posts then I suggest you bite your tongue.

No I am not the moderator.

You are sticking the boot into a forum which has the good grace to allow you your say. You have stated in earlier posts you will never again post on this unsuitable forum.

Why are you intent on badgering people on this site when it is obviously not good enough for your high standards?

Some of us believe it to be an invaluable asset to this area.

If you find it demeaning to use this "weak" forum, go find a strong one and use it, whilst we continue to function on here and enjoy wallowing in all our weaknesses.

I've lived in the area for 9 years and have read the forum for years and posted only ocasionally. Serious issues to crop up from time to time. I'm not interested in the tittle tattle, and there are probably many people like myself who feel the same.

    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
    • Clicking on your name, I see you've made seven posts on here since you joined  around four years ago, and they've all been about local libraries. And none of the posts are  very pleasant. Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
    • Kam was with us last week to wallpaper a bedroom. He was a pleasure to deal with and did a fantastic job - very neat and matched the tricky pattern very well. Would certainly use again.
    • What a bunch of pieholes. 2025 and you peasants have nothing to be grateful for. I have been inside the library recently and honestly the old girl is crying for a facelift, the goddamn carpet looks like it survived the world war and some. The Library is one of the oldest in Southwark and you are crying about a study place? What a bunch of bullshit. You have libraries all around you for your kids to go their studying you rotten sausage. How about be happy that the library is going to look absolutely stunning rather than be a whining bitch about it   Also, I have been told that the staffs have to work in the smaller libraries together. How do you think they feel?
