Really Louisa? So how come when you first saw the pic there wasn't an audible sharp intake of breath and the sound of milk bottles dropping to the floor coming from you, and instead we get a 'witticism' about Cilla's hair?

Still, why give up an opportunity to come charging in with your People's Pitchfork when it suits.

FWIW, I think the only thing that the pic is mocking is the 'grief industry' that kicks into gear every time a so-called celebrity snuffs it, Cecil the Lion is a bit of a giveaway in that respect doncha think?...

I diagree red Devil. You are not just mocking 'the grief industry' (whatever that is) you are also mocking the people who have died. Death is something we will all experience, and in some cases it will be a painful experience. People in the public have always made news upon their death - there's nothing new in that.

It was probably a delayed reaction, RD. This is quite common when people are, er, 'grieving'.

Good grief.

Plenty of working class tory voters out there, you know.

I have no problem with RD's picture. I saw it mainly as a send-up of the mawkish, global grieving for an animal (Jimmy Kimmel crying on TV over Cecil the Lion... FFS..)

We are all animals and we all have the same fate. The media will of course report on things excessively during silly season (kids summer holidays), they've always done that. Why do we on here need to make a point about that by sending it up? How about, a few respectful RIP posts in the correct thread and leave it at that. Rather than posting pictures and going off on the tangent (as per) about the excessive coverage of grief.

RD I didn't personally find your picture offensive to me as an individual, but if I were close family stumbling across that picture online I think it might hit home a little harder. But hey, who cares, as long as it doesn't affect us lot in any way, fine post it up! Got any other memorable humorous pictures to share?

Louisa.

Oh yeah - sorry, I forgot. YOU get to decide whether YOU?RE being offensive to anyone - and everyone else just has to suck it up cos you just speak as you find and stuff and so what yeah?

But everyone else must abide by your rules as and when you make them up, or as in this case - change your mind a few hours later.. when you realise there might be a bit of mileage in it.

*Bob* once again you turn the argument on its head to take away from the potential offence caused to grieving families, and bring it back to me. This isn't about me on this occasion. YOU do not decide when YOU can pull people up on things with your 'words of wisdom' and 'sarcastic banter' as a way of defending offence. You defend the right to ridicule and and the right to mock when it suits, but you then also pull me up on my speaking my mind and compare like for like. Two completely different things.

Louisa.

Let?s just have a recap, shall we

I'm struggling to see where the lion's mane stops and cilla's hair starts.

I'm sick of this modern culture of mocking those no longer here to defend themselves.

BOLLOCKS!

I'm so sorry Louisa.. I popped out for a walk in Dulwich Park and the Village for an hour or so

and wasn't posting ..

...so what happens ??

*bob* has to resort to insulting you in my absence.

I think he must have some sort of E-mail Alert set up when ever either of us post anything.

..or he just sits there waiting like a optimistic fisherman waiting for a bite..

    • From the Dulwich Festival website:   Teddy bears picnic with funfair at Dulwich park on 11th May. Giant Teddy Bears’ Picnic - Dulwich Festival   Goose Green fair is on 18th May. Goose Green Fair - Dulwich Festival   But no sign of the usual Dulwich Park Fair this year!
    • And so an update, a message saying I had a telephone appt which they then changed to a double to deal with two issues at once. From originally booking to the appt has been four weeks, so disappointed, but appt booked in.
    • Yes, it wasn't exactly Lewes, he lived in a tiny place near Ditchling Beacon while he was running Hoopers  (maybe  he moved to Lewes after Hoopers closed?) Near enough Lewes, though! I can't remember what the place was called, or even if it had a name, there were only a few houses. Which was very weird, because I lived in Ditchling for a time many many moons ago, and I drove up the  tiny road which passed near  those houses every day on my way to work in  Stanmer Park (at that time the local college horticulture department was based there). It was a short cut to the park, and there was a locked gate halfway down the road, which I had a key to. No idea if things have changed now, it was a very long time ago. Very small world indeed. We only found out because  at Jamie's request we put on music in Hoopers for a time (including Wizz Jones), so we got to know him. ETA: Very sorry Lulark (and Admin), this has no relevance at all to your post.
