DaveR
"You also said you can't buy real honey (is there any other?) for ?2. Is that a fact?""Alongside the Rowse honey (?2 a jar, if anyone's interested)"The facts appear to be clear. You can buy 'real honey' for ?2 a jar. You can't legally call something 'honey' unless that's what it is. But you can buy something that looks like honey, but isn't. And DF makes up any old shit he wants and posts it on here, like an incontinent poodle with an internet connection. *Bob*
I my defence, we only got back from a party at 4am. There was a little difficulty in sleeping so we passed time opening another bottle, inhaling nitrous oxide and getting jiggy in the back garden. Perhaps we'll try Twickenham next weekend though. Blah Blah
So the Khans jar on inspection is as Fox says, BUT we have other jars of honey bought from a well known supermarkets, all in the ?2 range and they definitely ARE honey. And sainsburys do a jar of set honey for ?1.40, described as 100% honey. So it is possible to get 100% honey in those price ranges. DulwichFox
Hi Blah Blah.. This thread has been somewhat distorted.. The argument was NEVER about whether the jars were labelled Honey or not. It was just a statement from myself in reply to your post that one should not be misled by what would appear to be genuine 100% honey. The Honeycomb which itself MAY be artificially made from edible gum. ? seemed to be the main selling factor. I think we were both convinced we were buying the 'real' thing. However the stuff was over sweet and had none of the usual flavours of more expensive Honey. Ultra filtering is a high-tech procedure where honey is heated, sometimes watered down and then forced at high pressure through extremely small filters to remove pollen, which is the only foolproof sign identifying the source of the honey.Cheap Honey will come from Multi-flower collection.Single Flower HoneySingle flower honeys (also known as varietal, monofloral or unifloral honey) differ from multifloral or wildflower honeys by the predominance of nectar collected from a single type of plant. In practice, this can be difficult to achieve. The bees cannot be herded or trained to go to a particular type of plant.Single flower honey is the result of two conditions. First, the target plant must predominate so the bees have little choice of plants. Second, the beekeeper must time the introduction of the hive and the actual harvesting of the comb to coincide with this blooming period. This is done by carefully observing the blooming period of the chosen plant as well as possible overlapping blooming periods of other nectar-producing plants as well. That's why it is so expensive.Comparison with cheap and expensive honey is like comparing a supermarket value burger with one that has beenhandmade from prime cuts and 100% beef.Foxy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/68594-price-of-honey/page/3/#findComment-882100 Share on other sites

numbers
It's great to know that rather than use google (so yesterday!), I can simply start a thread on the EDF and sooner or later, someone will collate the moot points from the web rather than me taking the time & trouble to do it myself. Was going to ask if anyone knows if Spring honey is sweeter than 'other' honey, is it a matter of taste? I bought some at a village fete the other week, the Spring honey was light in colour and the other very dark and less sweet. That stuff being sold in Khan's sounds vile...HFCS mixed in with honey. Ugh.Oh my jar cost a fiver. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/68594-price-of-honey/page/3/#findComment-882134 Share on other sites
