Yes, seen that honey advertised in their window. From memory, just a normal sized jar, but it's 'local' ooh err, honey. They must be buying it from a local producer and marking it up by about fifty percent.

Ayre's prices for some things are ridiculous, one roll is about 70 pence. Their hot cross buns are also expensive, in my opinion.

Yes, I have had the same from what was the Turkish Deli in Lordship Lane.

Unfortunately it is not honey but a sweet syrup.. It is very common in Tourist areas in Turkey and other Destinations.

Real Honey can be expensive..

It is 'Honey Flavoured' cheap high fructose corn syrup .. And that's basically it..

DulwichFox.

Honey is made by bees. Anything not made by bees isn't honey. That's what honey is, honey. So all honey is honey.

But of course there are different types of honey. Some bees are fed with artificial sugars and syrups which apparently makes less good honey. Some people think honey made from a certain variety of plants nectar tastes different or better. Some honey is filtered, removing pollen amongst other less desirable things.

But it's all still honey.

That said, nice honey does cost more. It tastes of bees.

Rowse original squeezy is 2 quid - Do I have corn syrup :)

The bottom line is that it's illegal to label and sell something that isn't honey (such as corn syrup) as 'honey'.

Whether or not you believe corn syrup to be lurking illegally inside many jars of inexpensive 'honey' is a different question. Or whether you can tell the difference, or care one way or the other..

My father did legal work for Birds/General Foods back in the 70s when they were set to launch 'Honey Pudding'. He pointed out that it didn't contain any honey at all, so they couldn't call it that. Within minutes the marketing team had come up with 'Hunny Pudding' and the rest is (very unpleasant tasting) history.

Then the 100's of web sites that explain the situation with genuine and artificial honey

are also talking out of their a***s.

With the US being the biggest perpretrator of this fraud.

So get of your soap box and do some research.

    • Thanks for the replies. I am expecting several personal and official letters that were posted last week and should have arrived by now, including a new bank card. I complained to my MP, Helen Hayes, a few years ago when most people in ED had the same problem.  She took up the issue and things seemed to improve.    I rang Peckham Sorting Office but the call went to the PO call centre - after a 20 minute wait I managed to speak to someone so  I'll see if anything arrives today.
