JAGS Gym ... to join or not to join?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently with Fitness First so I can access a gym near my workplace and again in Brixton. I'm finding, due to the distance, that I readily make excuses not to go on the weekend.

So I'm thinking of joining a more local gym and in terms of what is available I'm quite impressed by JAGs (according to online spec). Then I came across an EDF thread, dating back to 2009, that was really quite down on the place.

I'm hoping to get some opinions from people who currently use JAGS as to whether they'd recommend it or not.

Are the ladies changing rooms well maintained and kept clean? (one reason for no longer wanting to go to Brixton FF)

Are the studio classes of a high quality?

Is the equipment reliable?

Is parking generally available or a bit of a pain?

How does it work being connected to a school?

Thanks in advance.

I am a member and love it - pool is nearly always empty so good swimming (though during term time you can't use it during the day on weekdays), well equipped gym, good selection of classes (though having been a member of another incredible gym, the classes aren't that varied and are only in the evenings on weekdays, but that suits me).

I think for the monthly price it's definitely worth it - the only bad thing I think is the joining fee (but they do special offers sometimes that levy this) and also the general community feel - as in there isn't really one. I think they could

work on that by having member events or something but that's just my 2 pence!

To answer your other questions - parking always fine plus they have bike racks for cyclists, ladies changing rooms always nice, being connected to a school just means you can't use the facilities at certain times but you can always use them from 5pm ish every day and all weekend.

I'd echo a lot of that but for us parking is not always fine - my only big bugbear! You are offered use of the car park as a member benefit but the control gate is often not used at busy times and you end up dashing to classes having had to find a space in North Dulwich. This is only really an issue at weekends though.
