When THAT woman died, back in the 90s

still, it's another excuse for me to roll out my standard "careful people, don't get too got up in the emotion" standup routine

As for Jackson himself - a shame no doubt, but I can't believe people are surprised, nay SHOCKED at his death. It has been coming a long time surely? And at least, as Keef says, hopefully he has found some kind of peace now

Thing is, yes lots and lots of people died yesterday, but we didn't know them from Adam. This is a "public figure", and one that led such a bizarre life in the media, it just seems odd that he is not alive anymore.

Does that make sense? :-S

I had heard that he'd been ill, but must have missed lots of stories, as I had no idea he was that bad.

He peaked with 'Off the wall' and it was all downhill, physically, mentally and musically, from there

I don't know, Thriller is a great album, and there were a couple of high points on Bad, like "Man in the mirror", "Dirty Diana" and "Smooth Criminal".

Definitely went Waaaaay down hill after that though.

I too suspect he didn't have a heart attack.....things can't be so black and white.

no no - it wouldn't have been laughing at someone's death

I'm imagining it would have been about the media circus and the many millions of people around the world who would, for some reason, be grieving and crying and all of that...

Not laughing at someone dying - that was your assumption

Essentially whether you give a sh1t or not comes down to whether his music means anything to you - or not.

I can appreciate he was massively talented, but the music really doesn't mean anything to me (beyond some 'classic' singles which are undeniably brilliant). In addition to this, his total freakyness (largely self-made, though let's face it he hardly had a normal start in life) made me feel even more disconnected from him.

I like the subject matter of songs to at least have some sort of credibility with regards to the person singing the song and so the idea that Jacko was ever Bad, Dangerous, or a 'Lover' of any normal kind whatsoever, a bit hard to swallow.

Though it seems some people seem to equate 'mad as a box of frogs' as being part and parcel of the day-to-day life of being some sort of living musical deity.

He'll be on the Moon, living in a converted London double decker and quite close to Elvis. Don't you read the National Enquirer and National Examiner at all?

    • We have been patients at Sternhall Lane for years. Our experience has generally been incredibly positive with speedy responses and very helpful staff. We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.
    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
    • Agree but not so great for the independently owned cafes shops etc.
    • My husband goes to the newish one near the Watchpolisher on Lordship Lane.(sorry cant remember name-) I can assure you they're not 'fake'  He started going there because his excellent long-term barber had to rent a chair there when the shop he used to work from in Forest Hill closed. I think one needs to be careful when making statements like that above as it can damage reputable buisnesses. Also I should add the Barbers I mention always seems to be busy
