I used to take large Fruit and Nut/Nut only Bars, also Crunchies and packs of Curly Whirlies. I would take Fry's Chocolate Creams now, plus some of the Green and Black's different flavours. The chocolate from Lidl and Aldi is worth picking up, but obviously not British.

It's funny that Fry's seemed to disappear for years. Used to get them as a treat when I was a kid, then didn't see them for a couple of decades before they started appearing again a couple of years ago.

Talking of Fry's anyone old enough to remember 'five boys' chocolate bar with the almost ghoulish looking pictures on them? Think Fry's was bought out by Cadbury and consequently is now part of Mondelez. Still love a Fry's Turkish Delight and a Peppermint Creme bar.

There's a wide range of chocolate between Cadbury's and the 85% single estate stuff. I prefer Swiss milk chocolate - Callier makes fabulous cheap chocolate but I am partial to a bar of dairy milk every now and then. It may have been a 'limited edition', I know they did that for Kit Kat for a while...

I used to babysit for an american family when I was (a lot) younger and Crunchies were the most requested chocolate bar. I used to think their 'candy' was more exciting but I guess it was just because it was different (at the time). You can pretty much buy it all over here now anyway so it has lost its charm..and not sure I'd like the taste. My american cousins would go mad for Frys Chocolate Cream.


Louisa are you sure you didn't pick up those tiny packs of Flakes that are used for 99s (ice creams)?

Liked the short-lived Aztec as a kidlet and the weirdly glamorous Milk Tray bar - luxury. Unless you accidentally nicked the corner of the lime barrel, spilt it down your cubs uniform and made your woggle sticky.

I hate Dairy Milk. It doesn't taste of anything, just really sweet and has the texture of cheese. Horrible. That said, I do like a Crunchie and shameful as it is to admit, I always liked Caramac. My favourite old school bar though is the Fry's chocolate creme by a country mile. Oh, and Topics - love a Topic.

Oh yeah, of course I'm aware of that. I know Cadbury's is pretty low down on the "quality" scale, but nevertheless it always hits the spot for me, especially Whole Nut. The same way that fish finger sandwich with cheese and a fried egg is not a gourmet meal... but few things hit the spot in quite the same way.

I think the Red wrapper = the old Peanut Yorkie - long discontinued (there was a limited edition recently but it wasn't the same). Don't think it was dark chocolate though.

I'm an orange creme kinda guy. But remember as a kid they did a fruit creme version where each section had a different flavour. Don't think they make that these days, I've only seen mint or orange.
