Mark
What the best/quickest/least disturbing journey for me to get to from East Dulwich to Farringdon/Clerkenwell road to be there at around 8:15 am?37 bus to Herne Hill then train?Denmark Hill train to Blackfriars then to Farringdon?63 Bus from Peckham Rye to Farringdon? Is it also the best route if I want to be there at 9am?thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/677-best-route-from-ed-to-farringdon-on-public-transport/ Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
Least hassle is 63 bus. No changing. But at that hour leave extra time as black friars gets snarled. 815. I would catch bus at 7 to be sure. Should arrive plenty early. Time for coffee Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/677-best-route-from-ed-to-farringdon-on-public-transport/#findComment-16096 Share on other sites
Muttley
It's probably a question of which is the least unreliable bus. I'd say it's the Lordship Lane ones - i.e. go to Denmark Hill by bus, despite my recent bad experiences. The 37 is in my experience London's least dependable bus. louisiana
I second that. 37s obey the bus-squared rule (no bus for hours, then 9 of them). I have waited for more than 60 mins for a 37 (on a Saturday) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/677-best-route-from-ed-to-farringdon-on-public-transport/#findComment-16106 Share on other sites
Ant
63 bus and a good book. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/677-best-route-from-ed-to-farringdon-on-public-transport/#findComment-16126 Share on other sites
Jamie
third for 63 bus although you have to contend with the school children at that time. 10 start and a 6.30/7pm finish is much more chilled. BarryRoad
I used to work in Farringdon and made it in for 9 (sometimes before) leaving on the 63 at about quarter to 8. I'd be at the stop at quarter past 7 if it is imperitive that you're on time. Jeremy
if you can walk to herne hill, do that... better than waiting 30 mins for the 37! Huguenot
Oh, monkeys all. I do this every day and arrive before I left.ED station to Tulse Hill and direct to F'don.Alternatively Denmark Hill to Blackfriars, walk or train to F'don. OutOfFocus
ED station to Tulse Hill and direct to F'don. Which takes you into zone 3. It is frustrating that you have to pay more to go this route. Out of the rush hour you can go ED -> London Bridge -> Farringdon but the Thameslink service doesnt go via LD during the rush hour. Polly D
Definitely no 63. Agree with Sean and Ant - 7am and a good book. HSL does it every day. rob
I do it everyday too. Either from Tulse Hill (quick nip in the car) or Loughborough Jct (equally quick nip in the car) - 30 mins tops.... Huguenot
Ah, does it Andrew - I must confess I've never paid the Zone 3 premium.I wonder if the ticket reads 'by any reasonable route' and would overcome this Zone 3 fug?I even sit in First Class, as everyone else is too polite, or like to hug each other, or something. the cloak
None. They're all rubbish. You'd be better off staying at home with a nice Lemsip.Maybe a shortbread finger. Mark
ok, so I did the 07:21 East Dulwich > Tulse Hill -> Farringdon route this morning and it was fine, into work (first full day at new job) at 8:10. Thanks Huguenot.Returned via the 63 to the Rye as it didn't involve any changing of transport. That was fine too (can't wait to get back on the scooter tomorrow though). CheekyGirl
There are many ways, but my instinct would be to do the train straight to London Bridge, then a 521 which would take you to Holborn Viaduct. Thereafter, a 2 minute walk. I'm guessing this entire manouevre (?sp) would take about 30 or 40 minutes. all_star
Nothing mahjor to add here - but I will be starting this very same commute at the end of the month so is very useful and timely. Mark I hope the new job is going well. Will road-test (and rail-test I guess) the 63 and the train via tulse hill option in the coming weeks - will be good when the trains start accepting the pre-pay oyster cards so that I can go whichever way I feel like in the morning. Does anyone know if there is a date for that happening?
