badger
So I have searched all the EDF threads and see no mention of where all the gay single girlies in ED go... any clues? Not that I'm advocating women-only venues etc etc (I'm all for mixing it up) but it can be hard for a girl to work out what's what (I think my gaydar was taken out when I had my appendix removed last month) so pointers most appreciated. Huguenot
Hmmm...Can only offer a bright smile :)), but sufficient as temporary support methinks! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16139 Share on other sites
TillieTrotter
Quite a few gay lads n lasses hang out at The Commercial in Herne Hill, mostly fellas methinks but know a few gay girl couples do too. *Bob*
Badger... I reckon they're all hiding in the newly-formed ED W.I.Infiltrate and investigate, I say! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16158 Share on other sites
badger
Okay - sounds like I will have to try Camberwell / Brixton instead. But thanks for the tips and huge smile of support.Maybe should reform my ways indeed and become a cake-baker. Just how 'liberal and forward-thinking' are the WI these days? *Bob*
Didn't you know? Cake-baking is the new Bra-burning (in SE22, anyway) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16259 Share on other sites

James
Hey Badger, I have gay girlie friends and they like Bar Story in Peckham (mixed) and The Chocolate Lounge in Elephant & Castle (mostly gay women only). The later is really nice, more sophisticated & chilled out than places in Soho. Rye Bar & Grill next to Peckham Rye is also FULL of lesbians sometimes - and the food is lovely. SeanMacGabhann
Although it should be noted that The Chocolate Lounge has only just closed (according to their website) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16273 Share on other sites
resery
The Chocolate Lounge has indeed closed down. The Rye Hotel does seem to be popular with local sapphists and in any case is just really nice - I can't vouch for anywhere else as that's the only local pub I seem to go to these days. In the past I've made new friends (ahem) in Dulwich Library and dog-walking on Peckham Rye, but if you don't like books or dogs then that's probably not much help. ED is an oddity in that it is positively heaving with lesbians, but without ever having had any particular bars/pubs/W.I. meetings as a social focus. Just how 'liberal and> forward-thinking' are the WI these days? The EDWI did do the traditional cake stall at the fair, but we're planning to do lots of fun and less traditional events. Things that have been mentioned include wine tasting, car/bike maintenance, handy-round-the-house type stuff (how to rewire a plug etc), walks, theatre nights - all sort of things. Essentially the thoughts are that if a member is interested in something, and others would be up for it too, then we'll go for it.I also suspect there will probably quite a number of 'hang out, have a few drinks and chat' type evenings, which, as we're meeting regularly in a pub, will probably happen at least once a month once the main business/aim of the meeting is dispensed with.It seems most women are interested in joining to make new local friends and have some fun nights out.Elizabeth Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16317 Share on other sites
badger
*blush* :-$ - put to shame by my prejudices of the SE22 WI movement. What can I say - "WI" just makes me think of my Granny and her "how to live off rations" recipes / "how to look elegant without silk stockings" fasion/beauty advice / "how to keep your man happy" relationship advice. You should think about re-branding ... Thanks for all the suggestions. :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16376 Share on other sites
Nero
Er, Badger, the EDWI does seem to be trying to break that stereotype. Nero Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16380 Share on other sites
mikese22
What about the gay boys (and 30 somethings)?Saturday on Northcross / LL always seems to have plenty walking about, but where do they go after dark??I heard that Black Cherry was meant to be gay friendly, but it always seems quite (straight) couply when I go in - anyone got any suggestions that don't involve getting on a bus to Soho, Vauxhall etc? :-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16454 Share on other sites

James
As an SE22 gayboy myself I like The Rye the most. Some nights it seems mostly gay, some nights not at all - you never know really. Inside 72 is cool as well - clientele seems mixed.Am really upset about the Chocolate Lounge - Me and lezzie friends really liked that place :'(Would be nice to have somewhere gay in ED. Not some awful cruisey Soho bar - maybe a laid-back pub with a good jukebox and nice food. TillieTrotter
Well you guys are starting to gather here. So let your feet take action and maybe you can start a trend in one of the local pubs/bars, as there is obviously a gap in the market! Keef
Badger, are you sporty at all? Please don't think I'm stereotyping, a friend of mine split with her lass about 3 years ago now, and after getting over it, went and started playing in a girls footy team, and found herself surrounded by new, mostly gay, friends, and was quickly in a new relationship with a lovely lass, which is still going strong! :))Oh, and on a very loosely related topic, has anyone seen Electric 6 (see the link) live? They're playing at a bar near my sister's work soon, and we were considering going to see them...... *gonna spend all your money.....* ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/676-gay-girlies/#findComment-16557 Share on other sites

Keef
She joined us for a poker night at Fear's place a good few months back...
