Shocking. He still owes me some money - thought he was lined up for Breeders Cup declan - are you sure.

THE brilliant Rip Van Winkle, winner of three Group 1s, including this year's Juddmonte International Stakes at York, has been retired due to a setback, it was announced to the Racing Post on Wednesday night.

The four-year-old, who was general third favourite for the Breeders' Cup Mile at around 7-1 and a 16-1 shot for the Classic, will stand alongside his sire Galileo at Coolmore Stud in Ireland.

O'Brien told the Racing Post: "Rip Van Winkle has had a very slight setback and, while it is very minor, it would have meant forcing him to get him to Churchill Downs. So the decision has been made to retire him."

He added: "Everyone knows how good I always thought he was. His big thing was his incredible speed. We knew he had that from the first day he worked. He did win the Juddmonte International over a mile and a quarter this year, but he was a miler first and foremost."

Twice a winner over 7f at two, Rip Van Winkle came up against Sea The Stars in three consecutive races last season, finishing fourth behind him in the 2,000 Guineas and the Investec Derby, before running him to a length in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes.

Troubled by problems with his feet last year, he went on to beat Paco Boy in the Sussex Stakes and Zacinto in the Sony-sponsored Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. He disappointed in the Breeders' Cup Classic, finishing 12th behind Zenyatta at the end of a busy season.

This year he was foiled by Canford Cliffs in the Sussex before winning the International at York in August, when he pounced late to beat Twice Over half a length.

He subsequently ran second to Cape Blanco in the Tattersalls Millions IrishChampion Stakes and, on what was to be his final start, lost out by a nose to Poet's Voice when bidding to win the QEII again.

He bagged ?1,201,333 in prize-money across 14 races in three seasons for Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith

I'm having a great night at Poker in HORSE (Hold 'em, Omaha Hi/l, Razz, Stud, Stud hi/lo) tournament currently 5th out of 100 entrants with only 27 left so on for a big pay out plus won 2 Omaha hi/lo single table tournaments for $26 each, I love playing 3 tables at a time.
an amazing race. Big Z came from 30 lengths back to lose by a head. Will the jockey take the blame? It seemed the horse was not even running in the opening phase of the race. They are calling it her best race despite losing but may be jockey error. Americans are not happy.

Good luck. I know its all skill ;-)

Bit of a novice when it comes to betting...

Does anyone do the game in Coral where you bet on a footy game having more than 2 goals in it? A friend of mine was 2 goals off winning ?750 last week from a ?5 bet.

So thought I'd have a pop this weekend... ended up being 2 goals off winning ?375 from a ?5 bet...

I think it seems an easier/more likely way of winning some cash than betting on the winner in 8 games???

Today's bets:

Match to have more than 2 goals:

Coventry, QPR, Plymouth, Cheltenham and Shrewsbury @ ?5 = ?95.72 winnings.

Bristol City, QPR, Brighton, Leyton Orient, Walsall, Aldershot, Cheltenham and Port Vale @ ?2 = ?300.50 winnings.

Match to have a goal in the first 25 minutes:

Man U, Hull, Charlton, Rochdale and Lincoln @ ?2 = ?50.51 winnings.

Cardiff, Doncaster, Dag&Red, Aldershot, Lincoln, Celtic @ ?1 = ?57.12 winnings.

I bet I win nothing!!!

Darn - just 3 goals short, one each in three games.

Oh well, next week!

Burton Port a close second and came from a long way back, but small profit for the 3 races.

Looks like a good bet to me Declan. England and Ireland games could be close though. Argentina not what they were a couple of years ago so Ireland to edge that one, NZ to win by 20 points and England to edge a cloe affair with SA. I think England is the risk as they are well capable of winning but you never know quite what you will get from England. (having said that its probably half time already but don't know how its going).

    • I would also highly recommend Matt and Harri. They are hardworking, knowledgeable, friendly and clear about costs and timings. They came last October to cut back overgrown hedges, took out some sickly bamboo (including digging out a tangle of roots), jet washed paving and installed fencing for me. They have advised me which plants would work and sent me detailed listings of those plants including costings. Matt is a great communicator and replied very quickly to my initial query, visiting promptly to view the job as well as emailing a detailed quote and maintaining communication by text and phone. They did the job that I wanted, in the time frame that I wanted and at the price they had quoted. I was so pleased with their work and feel comfortable having them around (genuinely nice guys as the previous review mentioned) that I am now having them back to do the next job of sourcing suitable plants and planting them into the spaces that were cleared last autumn.
    • Hi Sue you can try to restore your Laptop to a previous restore point prior to last Monday if you have recovery switched on  To restore Windows to a previous date, you can use the System Restore feature. This feature returns your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It can help fix recent software issues without affecting your personal files.  Steps to restore Windows to a previous date  Click System Restore Click Next Select a restore point (date just prior to last Monday 3pm )  Click Next again Confirm the restore point and system restoration Click Finish Click Restart Open the System Protection tab
    • The person who started the previous thread I linked to said they were Greek, so I presume would be well aware of cultural nuances. The absolute kindest thing I can think of is that whoever started the shop (and I believe there are several shops) was not aware of the meaning of the name. But surely you would not just pluck a name for a new business out of the air? Surely you would make sure it did not have any possible negative connotations, in any language? Has anybody actually asked the shop about this?  As regards this "vegan hot chocolate", I'm bemused. The chocolate powder itself was surely just cocoa and sugar? It doesn't normally have any animal related products in it, does it? So it must have been the milk which made it "vegan", so probably either oat milk or soya milk? I regularly make hot chocolate with oat milk, and occasionally have it when  out. It has never occurred to me to call it "vegan" (I'm not a vegan), and I've never seen it described as "vegan". When I'm out I just ask for hot chocolate with oat milk. It obviously doesn't taste the same as when made with cow's milk, but I prefer the taste. I don't particularly like drinks made with soya milk, which in any case curdles in certain hot drinks, but  most places give you a choice of milk?
