Got good odds of 2/1 antepost. He was never deserving of 8/13 that was too short.

Rip has done my summers betting record a big favour. He now heads to the Bredeers Cup Classic and I have backed him at 3/1. He may come up against STS again there, who is also entered.

Mile and a quarter gives Rip a chance to avenge his Eclipse defeat to STS ( Rip was a close second and also suffered a smack on the nose from Kinane's whip in the run in ).

Bit of an amateur in here. I have an ongoing competition with a workmate where we each bet a fiver on 4 football results each week. This is coming to a close this season sooner than usual due to redundancy so I need your help. At the moment due to his massive win of ?3.98 I'm in dire need of getting 4 correct in one week to overtake him. He won when the last WC qualifiers were on and picked dead certs. Today I got 3 right but WBA let me down. So I will select for next week the most popular guesses on here so long as the winnings amounts to more than ?3.98. I'm assuming he won't win again. Over to you professionals! Take your time. I don't have to have my entry in till Friday. We can select anything that's on the coupon.

Might be better to be on the football thread Declan. Thats where you will get the football experts. They post their score predictions each Friday and you can make use of that info.

There are a few footie fans on here though who might help, but personally I think picking footie results is quite tricky and your guess will be as good as anyone elses.

No, we do all sports Declan, but even though you might not want to post on the Footie thread, the predictions are interesting and worth reading.

From a betting perspective however, I used to do 5 team accumulators with my mates in Ireland 20 odd years ago - all the talk the next day was of the one team that let them down - so your dilemma is not a new thing - the bookies depend/know that one team will probably mess up.

I always think betting is about going with your own view, so trust yourself.

Not at all Declan - Not 20 years experience, quite the opposite - I decided very quickly that football accumulators are a bad bet. Have for 20 years only done single bets. The odds reflect the chances. If you have 4 teams and the odds stack up to 5/1 then guess what, you will only get that 1 week in 5 if you are lucky. Its tricky.

I agree STS is fantastic - but I have been a fan of Rip all season and I would love to see him have the last laugh and win the Breeders Cup Classic.

If STS remains unbeaten and wins the Arc and the Classic then he is the best horse ever, I will just find it amazing if he does that.

I think Rip will challenge him hard in the Classic over 10 furlongs - that I think is Rips best distance - and looking again at the Eclipse replay its a fantastic race and very little between them. If you look closely too you will see where Rip stalls briefly in the run to the line as Kinane's whip hits his nose, at that point Rip was catching. That little bit of controversy just gives Rip an outside chance in a rematch.

Eclipse

I was surprised by Zacinto......I know he's only 3, but his last couple of runs haven't been too impressive, and then he goes and pulls that one out of the bag.

I'm think that accumulators are a bad bet. Makes me think of Placepot Pete, one of the customers in the bookies where I used to work - it was ALWAYS the last horse that let him down. And that was his wife's hosuekeeping money for the rest of the week gone. Same with football. Chelsea getting beat by Wigan - that would have let me down.

Cheers RD. Yes I was more than a little worried, my horses finishing second is a feeling I had my fair share of earlier in the summer, so I was relieved to see Rip see off that challenge.

I have just done my research for the Arc and have backed Vision D'Etat and Conduit. STS too short to consider.

Vision D'Etat has won 2 group ones this year and is a course and distance winner too. Olivier Peslier knows how to win the Arc too and he is booked to ride.

Conduit has been a fantastic horse the last two years. Is a Breeders Cup turf winner and has not been raced since July. Racing Post pundits say the long straight at Longchamp will suit him as he comes from the back of the pack and suits a long run in.

9/1 Conduit and 17/1 Vision D'Etat - smallish bets as we know who the likely winner will be, so just betting to have an interest in the race.

well i dont bet odds on quids. Some lucky people got ante post odds on sts so good luck. I on the other hand, wish to keep recent winnings, and have looked at small bets on value and will enjoy the race whatever happens. The breeders cup will be a different story when Rip beats golden balls.

    • One thing we agree on FM.  I expect that is not new and I remember looking out from a 5th floor over a pavement near Traf Sq 20 years ago and asking what the numerous spots were on an otherwise prestige light grey footpath. Some local authorities put out gum bins but as with all litter just don't drop it.  And fag ends.  And disposable vapes.  And nitrous oxide cylinders!
    • Just a few more days to try and reach the target amount.  Many thanks for all your generosity and kindness
    • What is also happening - I don't know about Sainsbury's as I no longer shop there, but certainly in other supermarkets and with some manufacturers - is that products remain the same price but the quality or quantity is reduced. Just one example: I buy Waitrose Essential tissues, only because they have plain boxes with no branding once they are in use, and I like the colours (blue for the large ones and mauve  for the smaller ones). The tissues in the mauve box have recently become so thin that they disintegrate virtually immediately you use them. Same with Cushelle quilted toilet rolls. Well, they don't disintegrate, which would be revolting, but they have also got so thin that it's hardly worth buying the quilted ones. And as for  PG Tips ...... 🤬
    • I remember all those glowing recommendations, but I haven't seen any mention of them anywhere lately. Are they still going?
