Hi,

I've been putting off buying a tablet for a long time and I think I'm giving in now... I have Galaxy S5 phone and spend way too much time on my small phone screen so I might as well get a tablet.

The question is...should I get iPad Air or Galaxy Tab the latest version?

I know that iPad is the go-to tablet for anyone, it's easy to use, I won't have to worry about virus, it's cool, but the only downside is the IOS / I-tune system. I used to use iPhone and never got used to the whole sync / transferring file / etc on IOS.

Android is easy to use when I want to transfer photos or music between my laptop and also to a SD card as well...

In terms of price, I think Galaxy tab is slightly cheaper but not by much.

Which would you recommend?

I'll mainly use it for surfing net, watch stuff on Netflix, downloading movies for travelling, online shopping, texting with friends, etc.

Thank you!

People go on about ipads being easy to use. I have an ipad, and I often find it harder to find the setting I'm looking for than I do on my Android devices. The reason for this is that I am used to Android. You are used to a Galaxy phone, so the tablet would seem totally natural to you.

I am also not seeing the best apps only being on ios, as they may have been a couple of years back. I think Android has largely caught up.

Only area the ios still wins hands down (and is the reason I have one) is for music recording type apps, where you're plugging a guitar / mic in to the device (via an interface). Android doesn't have these apps (yet) due to latency issues which no one has sorted out. But if you're not planning to make music, I'm not sure I'd bother splashing out on an ipad.

Oh, and I only have an ipad because my sister gave me her's when she upgraded to an air.

Yep... that definitely happens a lot with the cheaper ones. I'd hope that an upmarket one like a Galaxy would last a bit better, but they all grind to a halt in the end.

If it's the Tab S you're talking about then this was/is pretty well known for having a really great screen, so if you're going to use it for tv/movies on the go this may be a selling point for you.

Worth watching a few reviews on YouTube from the likes of Android Authority, Pocketnow, Detroitborg etc. Expect some of these will do comparison vids with the ipad too.

Same here. It's a common problem. Maybe not as bad with other manufacturers who might perform more dilligent testing before deploying to older devices.

    • The Crofton Park noticeboards I mentioned above are solely for information about the council  and various community groups, plus  various community related things such as the library times and services.  I think they are very bright, interesting and inviting, however I am not going back there solely in order to take a photo 🤣
    • From experience, it's the norm that the local authority reject appeals regardless of facts. Suggest you appeal and highlight that you followed the requirements by using the app to log the parking session and the failure of the app / network to register this is a technical issue beyond your control for which you can not be held responsible for and accordingly not penalised. Also that the traffic wardens records confirm you were parked for less than the free period so again should not be penalised. Do a search on web for similar appeals The 'fight back forum' website used to be very good for people sharing there appeals experience; and looks like this is no longer running but try https://www.ftla.uk I've appealed loads of Penalty Charge Notices for myself, friends and family and all been successful. In approx half of the appeals the local authority did not even respond and were won by default.  Re 20p fee - check if you you have text message alert 'on' as these are generally charged for and if so turn it off to save text fee. Hope this helps
    • I’ve read the thread, but no one on the thread has authority over the noticeboards. There must be something written somewhere spelling out the purpose of them;  if they’re not serving that purpose maybe the purpose should change.  I’m interested, not because I have a business which I wish to advertise, but because I’ve seen noticeboards elsewhere that have a richer more reflective feel maybe a bit like a physical manifestation of the What’s on on section of this forum but more
    • There has already been pages of discussion about this. Please read the whole thread if you haven't already. These are community notice boards and not for the use of  local commercial businesses. I need this to be quite clear before I spend  time on it, because if they are to be used for commercial purposes then I am not willing to be involved at all, and shan't be speaking to Monica
