i stepped out of my front door last night at approximately 10.30pm.

two young boys, were trying keys in my neighbours car. they definately didn't expect me to come out, when they saw me, one said to the other "oh how do i know what his car looks like, he should've told me when he gave me the keys! & they started walking. that was obviously said for my benefit.... as i drove on to lordship lane they were sitting on the wall between the cafe & shoe shop talking,

this has been put on here purely for information purposes for y'all forumites.... & also to say this happened in full view of the police stn... on whateley rd

I shall be sure to go outside and watch my car after hearing this news - all day, if necessary.

If we all pull together and watch all of our cars, all of the time, then there's a good chance nothing will happen to our cars.

We can do it.

Actually, I'll be out for most of today. Can somebody please come over and watch my car?

Given the warning people could chose to put their cars in garages (if they have one), get additional security, alarms, crook locks etc!

If you don't find this type of post useful then don't read it! If you do then then its served its purpose.

Forumites seem all too quick to poo poo other forumites posts these days! If this carries on people simply wont post any longer and the forum will cease to be the source of information it is! Rant over and nothing personal to you *Bob*, your post is just the straw that broke the camels back to something I have been thinking for a while now! Your original post was quite amusing ;-)

i wlll be remembering to lock my car doors as I don't always think it's necessary around here - as this is a nice area I get lulled into thinking we're not in a city and reminders always help.

not one of the recent deluge of sarcastic replies to posts has ever helped me.

Really Jim, really really really, you thought you could leave your car unlocked around here? Or indeed anywhere?

And the adverts on the telly and the evidence of your own eyes and the slew of posts on here about car break ins / bike thefts did nothing to change your mind and this one solitary post opened your eyes to what a fool you had been? Really? Well ok then.

For myself, all the sarcastic comments have helped me think I wasn't alone in my exasperation.

Did you tell your neighbour, has he got his keys? Is the car still there ? prob they just messing about.

Because of my awful memory I've left my car unlocked over the past couple of years about half of the time and nothing has happened. So, as an experiment, it goes to show either that I'm really an extraordinarily lucky man living in a den of thieves or that 99.9% of people who pass it by, even in a city, won't be professional or opportunistic car thieves. So, yes, I do think I can leave it unlocked because I do and nothing happens.

Other posts have reminded me that I should lock it, but I suppose I picked on *bob*s post as I'm totally cheesed with the sarcastic posts on this forum at the moment. *bob* is probably the only forumite who's made me laugh out loud in the past but all these negative posts are making this a grim place indeed.

I know people 'mean well', and I'm sure it may appear a little churlish to some to see somebody rock-up and piss all over someone's well meaning thread.

But these threads are part of an self-perpetuating, cyclical and ever-increasing splurge of posts which, in the wider context of things, are absolutely meaningless, practically useless and, at worst, potentially damaging.

That's how I feel about them. I'm fairly sure I'm not alone.

I know how you feel Jim

I started a thread saying how all these other threads were annoying me and do you know what? I had lot's of negative people telling me off for censoring them!! How negative is that??

Still tho - quite the accolade for *Bob*... the ONLY person to make you laugh out loud? Ted Max must be gutted...

There'll be another one along soon, Jeremy. The rot has set in.

Incidentally, if people who are sick of reading these threads are expected not to respond to them, then people who are sick of sarcastic responses can surely try and do likewise? Or is it a one way street?

Should I move to Camberwell and Brixton? Golly, they seem awful safe and community-minded compared to here.

What do the Brixton and Camberwell forums say about them, and what does this one say about us?

I logged on here a few days ago and more than half the stuff on the main page was incident-related, ranging from 'useful' through to 'what?'. In addition, there were two spoof posts about pointless incident-related thread, and to cap it off - two posts from people who were either thinking of moving here, or have just moved here - wondering if the place was 'safe to live in'.

Anyway, this is my LAST WORD (as TheBeard would say) on the SUBJECT. Things did not used to be this way. If that's what floats people's boats then float on. I shall be floating off.

Just took a look at the Camberwell forum and noticed that they have a section called CSI where they can discuss crime in the area. Not a very active forum though so posts are few and far between.
