The Ashes on the radio

Hi,

I am in Spain for some of the tests this summer and have bought a Roberts World radio to listen to England thrash the criminals from down under. Only problem is i cant seem to work out how to tune it in and on what frequency, any help gratefully received.

TMS should be on Long Wave at around 200 kHz (it usually transmits Radio 4, which is probably what's on it now).

The signal should reach Spain, but might depend on 'atmospherics', local geography and whether there are transmitters nearer (or more powerful) working on the same frequency.

You can listen via your PC all around the world. Just go to the TMS website via BBC.

My experience is you won't get Radio 4 that far away - to get a reliable analogue signal much more than 250 / 500 miles away you need a very low frequency (VLF) carrier wave - which also has a very low data rate and doesn't suit voice transmission.

Sorry, you'll also have to tune your radio to the correct station in order to listen to the cricket.
