If they can concoct a decent white (or is it black?) russian, then we will have our answer from HMB.

Went in yesterday and look around, the girls running it were lovely, went through all their plans and menus, love the idea of different guest chefs, and the wines looked amazing, garden is all planted with herbs & liking the decor....as for the name, it's not emblazoned in 6ft high letters, they have the cat logo on the front...Doesn't offend me at all...and tbh theres more things in life i have to worry about, already booked a table
I hope they do really well. Everyone who works there seems young, bright and enthusiastic. Their menu looks lovely. The garden looks absolutely terrific. Good luck to them. Going for dinner there soon. That site, for some unknown reason, has always been a bit difficult so I hope this venture cracks it. It's a bit like Pedlar but posher, and frankly I don't give a monkeys about the name.

It's called "Sunday evening" DF - usually not a massive crowd puller. I don't think it representative of anything?

Yes it was Sunday evening at the EDT too funny enough.. they were quiet.

But they still stayed open until midnight for the customers that were there.


Jaflong was also open with no customers. But I was still able to get a take away (and could of sat down)

at 10.30 / 11.00pm . Its called business.

It's a pop up though isn't it? Context: They've just soft launched and are working hard to get things right, tweaking things and no doubt long days - all the usual challenges and fun that comes with a startup.


Very different to a mainstay local pub - an institution thats been established for well over a century.


Or are you comparing apples to bananas and casting mild Nasturtiums again?

I'm not going to be drawn into an argument on the subject..

If it was MY new business. It's name (A sensible one)would be sign written above the door so to speak.

The windows would not be greyed out so people could see in/out. and I would be OPEN.

Whats the joke though? Where's the wit? "Mrs Slocombe's Pussy" was funny because they were actually talking about a cat belownging to Mrs Slocombe and the result sounded rude (and funny). Meat Liquer sells meat and liquer and the resulting name sounds kind of rude (any funny). So unless Pussey Liquer is a restaurant where a cat serves you alcohol, there is no double entendre, no witty mis-read of the name...its well, just a bit grim innit (and not really funny).

Pop ups are a new type of business Foxy. They work differently to traditional businesses and have a different way of operating. Putting all notions/feelings/thoughts of "hipsters" to one side the business model is an interesting one.


It makes temporary use of unused shop space and brings new products and services to an area which wouldn't have been possible previously.

I had not looked at this place as a Pop up. ?


I though it was intending to be a business that grew to an established ED venue. A destination.


As a Pop up surely it is a case of making a quick killing and moving on.

You don't do that by being closed.


We have to wait and see.

I wouldn't get too hung up on definitions these days. The pop up label covers a wide spectrum....anything from a few days duration moonlighting at an established venue to "lets give this 6 months and if it works we can invest and make it long lease".


For me the problem is the space configuration on that site - narrow and lots of hard surfaces that bounce around the noise. Unless you're investing for the long term any makeover will be a quick and cheap ala Sorsi. Needs to be warmer and get some soft furnishings in there.

My understanding from when I looked in that they will have guest chefs possibly from other restaurants producing their signature dishes there ..sort of pop up restaurants, in a rotation, I like the idea of there being something totally different to try every few months.

They were only serving brunch on Sunday, I guess this doesn't go on into the evening, I'm guessing its going to gradually build up a more substantial menu & opening hours as they go on.

I read it as Pus-sy liquor as in something that oozes out of a boil : (.

either way I think its a rubbish name, just a bit gimmicky and stupid.

Sort of name you'd see on one of those grim bars in Clapham.

As a woman I don't find the name offensive, it doesn't however make me want to want to ring my friends and suggest a night out there.

It is very Clapham isn't it?


Yoiu'd have thought they'd have looked at what happened to Boho and Adventure Bar, seen that appealing to "that crowd" didn't work here, looked at House of Tippler (and how successful they've been) and gone from there.


You'd have thought that would have been their research anyway....but perhaps they're business genii.
