talk of turfing over the piste... help!

Success! A very nice man called Greg called me back from Lambeth and explained the pitch was going to be pulled up and returned to grass as part of the scheme to improve the park that has funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Apparently the pitch is old and deteriorating and not a surface that would be used today when laying a football pitch. During the consultation, users said they didn't like the surface and so it is to be returned to grass. The first bit of good news is that this won't happen for 18 months, but the even better bit of news is that Greg had spoken to a Project Officer for the park, Trevor Uprichard, who said he would welcome direct engagement from users on ideas for improving the park. Trevor's number is 020 7926 6221. If you can get in touch, explaining that there is a real demand for such a facility, it sounded like Lambeth could be very open to this suggestion. The timing is probably great as the work funded by the lottery has not started yet. I still think it would make a great story, so do let me know how the campaign goes and let me know when I can come and take some photos of a match. We can send the link to the blog to Lambeth too, to emphasise the demand.

My next campaign is to access the bowling green!"

Yes indeed. They want to build another I am in contact with Thomasin and Trevor at Lambeth Council about this. Lambeth are trying to work out a way to incorporate dedicated piste into their plans so it's not all bad.

Am awaiting confirmation from el-presidente but these things are usually registration at 10.30 with a view to starting games at 11.00. Can we expect you to make an appearance, tony?

Its possible as its something entirely new and different for me to watch Horsebox.

I'll just wait until the morning, see what the weather is like etc, and might combine it with a trip around South London.

If you're in the area then come and check it out and say hello, of course. If you did want to enter a team then come Along early. There's a couple of decent pubs nearby for ales and pastis if you need something to calm

the nerves after the initial excitement of your first game. Big up.

It went well thanks tony. 8 teams from all over London including charlton, parliament hill, Croydon, kennington and representatives from the forum as well (not me). My team, HMU Petanque, won 3 and lost 3 placing is 4th overall. Not too shabby as we played against some rather impressive French/North African teams.

All in all a succesful day with lovely weather and good crowd of people.

There's the Ricard open triples at Battersea Park on 12th July, free to enter and top prize is weekend in south of France. I'll start a new thread later on when I'm not on my iPhone and can type

properly.

    • I've used Mattress Man twice, can thoroughly recommend. It is worth investing in a good mattress (£400 plus), since you spend a lot of time in bed and they will last for years.  I favour a firm well-sprung mattress which I find gives good support.  Don't forget to turn your mattress regularly: side to side every couple of months, and top to bottom at least once a year.  This will ensure even wear.
    • Thanks Sue, its definitely the whole mattress needed!   Thanks for this!
    • Lynne, I do sympathise having gone to Kings A&E on 6th December. I sat on a chair for 7 hours followed by lying on a trolley for 11 hours before having emergency abdominal operation. I was in for 4 nights. Complaining would not have changed things as the staff were evidently working flat out and the place was mobbed. Ever since,  I thank my lucky stars that it happened when it did because within 2 weeks the whole of Kings was swamped by the impact of Covid, Flu' , RSV, Norovirus, etc etc I do hope you are recovering well
