Did anyone know this wonderful old lady called Ivy, she was short and petite and aged around her early 80's I would guess, snow white hair and as chatty as could be.

She told stories of being a dancer in the 30's or 40's and of working 9something quite physical I remember her saying) during the war. I think she said she lived around Chesterfield Grove / Melbourne Grove and mentioned she had a large house and hubby had departed and she was sadly all alone in it. The council were allegedly tring to get her out of her house into an old people's home and wanted her to sell her house to finance this plan. She (bizarrely to me !) always raved about wishing she could move to Court Lane where 'its lovely'.

She was always up and down LL shopping and stoping everywhere to chat, she seemed to know plenty of people around and I guess she did her socialising by hanging out on the strip.

My guess is she's sadly departed by now but you never know, she may just be unable to get about.

I know my description probably covers 75% of women in that age group in the area at that time, but hey, don't ask don't get.. so..... any info / anyone knew (knows) her or what happened to this sweet lady ??

Kid, I think i know the old lady you're referring too - seems to fit description. She lived on my street, up past the plough, until earlier this year when, after a few episodes of night-time wandering in her bedclothes she was taken into a home. Didn't know the full details. I always used to chat with her when I saw her in the street - and she'd often be talking about her trips down to Lordship Lane. Lovely old lady.

CitizenD - if you get to hear anymore pls let me know.

tonyw3 - I'm sure both Ivy (the lady in subject) AND Ladymuck are very sweet.

Ladymuck - Of course, I will update all you good folks as I know you cannot wait to hear what happened to Ivy. Was she dragged off to some awful old-people's home in her negligee ? Has she passed away unnoticed by myself and other shoppers some time ago ? Did she finally secure a house on Court Lane to finally, though virtually posthumously, satsify her ambition to live on the 'lovely Lane' ?

Any other info will be appreciated she was a key fixture when shopping on LL.

    • Chiming in to recommend the Canacabins team, who did a beautiful job completely rebuilding a well-loved (but falling down) shed into a new garden office. While they were at it, they also constructed a new pond surround, deck, railing, and patched up our decrepit fence, all to a high standard. A friendly team and very happy with the end result!
    • There isn’t a map for the Go Jauntly walk - I added that.  I plan to update it now the weather is getting warmer but haven’t yet. Part of the reason for adding it was that I couldn’t find a map.    Not going to help but Dulwich Festival will be doing a walk so might be worth asking them.
    • An idea if you are looking for something to do. I’ve visited and have just come across this again.    Vauxhall City Farm is a farm in London where we can see the animals the packaged meat in the supermarket comes from. Entrance is free, a donation of £4 is requested   Looking for a present you can adopt an animal - support the farm and the person you gift it to will get 3 lots of food to feed on visits.    The 50th Anniversary Appeal is currently running so they can do the farm up and hopefully give the animals a home and people the chance to see them for another 50 years. If you want to donate here’s the link    https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/growthenext50years
