Normally when you walk past a Fish & Chip shop you are usually greeted with a wonderful aroma which makes

you hungry and want to eat Fish & Chips.

Walking past Fish and Chips and More something is missing. ? Have they installed very efficient extractors

and aroma filters..

We have been using this place for fish and chips since it opened. When it first opened, the quality was very high but over the past 6-12 months (we probably have fish and chips every couple of months) the quality has been steadily going downhill.

Last night our fish was thin, lacked a flaky texture, the batter was greasy and had a chemical-like taste; the chips were soggy and poor quality. Added to this I could see the staff rubbing their faces, touching their hair, etc and then preparing/ serving food. So, due to a combination of poor quality and hygiene we won't be going again.

Thin fish that is not flaky is likely to be Pollock (a cheap alternative) some fish shops are passing

on illegally as Cod. Fish advertised as Cod has to BE Cod.

It can be identified by a pinkish colour.. and a mushy wet texture.

I find Sema on Underhill road, near Exhibition really good. they seem to be really anal about cleanliness and cook the fish there and then for you. You can even phone them up and order and go collect so you do not have to wait around. The only word of warning is that sometimes i have caught them trying to pass off a small/medium cod as a large so i always ask them when they serve me to make sure. The portions are big though

SEMA's was always my favourite but I suspect that on occasion they have substituted Cod with Pollock..

I have questioned them on this issue and they deny this practice..

Look out for thin fish with pinkish mushy flesh.. Cod has a pure white flaky texture..

    • I am sorry to  continue this, but I found your previous  comment about me very personal,  disturbing and upsetting, which was why I responded at length. I'm sorry it bored you. I try to stick to facts. I have investigated. You (and anyone else) can go into the "search" settings on here and  do a search on an author's name. So you can (I presume) find all my posts, including any which were  replying  to you. I can't imagine that they are in greater numbers than my replies to anyone else, but you can see for yourself. I guess you can probably also find examples of what you call my "usual sarcasm". I wasn't aware that l had a tendency to sarcasm, though I do find a lot of things funny.  There is no need to reply to this unless you actually find evidence in support of what you said. Sorry everybody else. I had to get it off my chest as I was lying awake last night worrying about it 😭
