Looks like theses people have moved their business to Ruislip Manor, my mum 83 years old has been duped into paying a deposit and balance for about ?4000 for minor pebbledash and painting to a small terrace house.

Cheque cancelled before cashed so hopefully nothing lost. Tactics are exactly as listed in the threads, cold calling by youngster, ask for phone No follow up phone call and visit by salesman using pressure tactics, stayed in house 3 and 1/2 hours till contract signed. As said cheques cancelled and contract cancelled within cooloing off period, wait to see what happens now.

With regard to the "cooling off period" - I may be mistaken but I believe this differs for unsolicited calls from salesmen. I understand that if you have made an appointment for a salesman to call (even if arranged through a different person such as the youngster in this case) your rights under cooling off periods are weaker. Is this correct? Any consumer law specialists out there?

    • Some of you may have never been to a post office on a Saturday when one or more people are posting their ebay parcels and you wait yonks.  Just one of those things.  I'm more concerned about the speed of the Royal Mail.  I may start a thread on this!
    • If you're going British, Marks and Sparks do a fantastic Cornish Cruncher Cheddar (get the three year old if it's on offer) and a Stilton/Stichelton which are wrapped in something more like wax paper.  I'm pretty sure they used to do a Stinking Bishop which had minimal plastic wrapping, as well.
    • Thanks to everybody for the responses. Agree that £50-60 is somewhat excessive so supermarket is likely to be the route we take.
    • If you can track down the owners of the now defunct Heritage Cheese in the village, there could be some stock-clearance bargains if you don't mind your cheese a little pre-nibbled.
