LeagalEagal, I take it you don't agree with it even you you were 100% cetain the person was guilty? What did you think when Saddam was hanged? He had undoubtedly done some bad things, but I still felt it was completely wrong, and he was basically handed to a lynch mob, purely for revenge, justice had nothing to do with it!

i have no idea, because i was not on the jury, but let's remember that in all the miscarriages of justice where people were subsequently released, they had all been found guilty beyond any reasonable doubt too.

I disagreed with the Saddam murder because it weakened the pitiful authority of the Western Forces and looked like it was done by the US as a way of shutting him up and getting their own back on him for turning against them after he'd been put in power by the US in the first place.

Well said L-E

Enough now, we agree to disagree OK

Or heads will roll

Agree, lets let this one rest. My final word, in answer to Tony, is that had he not killed himself, I don't see that killing Hitler would have brought a single person back. Perhaps it would have been more useful to try to learn what made him the way he was. Whatever example you use, I can't see myself ever agreeing that it is justifiable to end a life, and that a fellow human should be shouldered with that responsibility.

When I see their faces looking out from the pages of newspapers I want to cry my heart out.......... Bring back capital punishment for goodness sake.

The death penalty does work they "NEVER" reoffend.

Fact is approx 25 years ago is when all these do gooders started getting there way i.e , parents teachers banned from smacking kids, someone causing bother in the neighborhood then getting a slap from local residents without the fear of arrest. And as a result you get kids who grew up from that period with total disrespect for property and life.

It has to be the time now to say "Look! All this PC nonsence DOES'NT work. Lets go back to how it should be." In such a CLEAR CUT case as this and others like it , death penalty , pure and simple! They have no purpose in a society.

God bless the two victims.

Funnily enough I agree with you on the PC part.

We have allowed respect for authority to disappear and that is a direct result of Blair and the emergence of the nanny state.

In my day in DKH, Mr Mabey used to have precision aim with the board rubber and had a hairbrush which he used to chalk your name on in reverse before paddling you with it.

I have to say I think I was only once a victim of this, I was just more careful about being caught in the future.

Discipline at my boarding school was more intense with the sixth form prefects being able to give detention for walking on their path, too much??

I still have my essay on the sex life of a blade of grass, but lost the one on the inside of a table tennis ball.

PC is pure crap, we have a consensus.

Execution not so much.

Although I disagree with the death penalty Daizie I'm right behind you on the whole P.C issue. It was created to allow Guardian readers to bask in the smug glow of a patronising goverment. It was also given life once the trend of knee jerk litigation arrived from America and it became acceptable to sue your grandparents for getting you WHsmiths vouchers for your birthday. The 90's have a lot to answer for.

I'm torn on the PC issue. A lot of the time, you hear people say "it's PC gone mad", and you think, "No, you're just a complete loon".

But

Sometimes I think it does go too far, and I disagree with people who shoot down anyone saying "PC gone mad", because in some circumstances, I think it has.

I wouldn't want to live in a world where my kid gets a slap from a stranger for being naughty though, and I don't think being anti capital punishment has anything whatsoever to do with being PC.

I'm in total agreement with everything u wrote here.

By 'PC' nonsense, do people mean that they should be allowed to call black and brown people by whatever names they like without them taking offence, or at least with them not being able to do anything about it, just like in "the good ol' days"?

What then, because I've heard people say it's "PC gone mad" that people can't call others racist names without people taking offence. So what other "PC gone mad" is it?

    • Does anybody know why? Trees aren't cut down for no reason. There must have been something wrong with it (I hope that was the reason). A child was recently killed and another one injured when a tree fell in a park (not in this area). It isn't always obvious from the outside when a tree is diseased or whatever, and I imagine the council would give safety considerations priority when deciding what to do, if there was any doubt at all.
    • It looks like they have cut it down completely now 😭
    • Different people will be  involved within Thames Water. The people dealing with the leaks aren't the people encouraging less water usage. How many people have reported the Barry Road leak? By what channels? What response have they had? When we had a leak in our road which meant we had no water, several people reported it, there was good communication with TW, they explained why they couldn't come out immediately (other urgent jobs elsewhere in the area) , kept  in touch with us and fixed the leak within a reasonable timescale (hours). Someone from TW also contacted me later to make sure my water was back. But does Thames Water know about it? They aren't psychic (I presume). If nobody reports it, I also presume they won't even know the leaks are  there, unless they have some kind of central monitoring system which tells them when there are leaks in the system. To make it clear, I am not defending Thames Water as a company, which I think should never have been privatised.  But there are some things they can't be blamed for (old and disintegrating water pipe system in London) and some they can (possibly, lack of sufficient staff to deal with leaks, maybe due to trying to save money to give their shareholders more. But this is just surmise on my part - I know nothing about Thames Water).
