Tony.London Suburbs
Sorry to hear that Wolfie.I do believe though, that if there is absolutely no doubt that Bombers, for example, who have deliberately tergeted their victims have lost and forfeited all their rights to exist. At the very least, they would not be able to cause any more deaths. Santerme
Interesting statistics since 1970 in the US 133 people have been totally exonerated of the crimes for which they had been previously sentenced to death.Only 1 in 700 murders result in a death sentence and only 1 in 325 result in the sentence being carried out. Keef
This is always an emotive subject, and I guess people's minds won't be changed. I would ask those of you who are pro capital punishment. Would you be the one to pull the trigger? Would you look at the person in the eye, what ever they'd done, and end their life? Even Albert Pierpoint ended up being against capital punishment. woofmarkthedog
So one dead man, then add another is an equation of justice. Get a grip. That's revenge & if you think it satisfies your ego stick with it. I can tell you when in your darkest hour the hardest truth is, it "revenge" solves nothing, how can you get your own back, you can't & your loved one is not coming back no matter how much hate & fury you feel. The real liberation comes ultimately from acceptance, facing the truth & dealing with it. daizie
I really dont understand why some people want 'fairness'and 'justice' in every other aspect of life , yet dont when it involves being tortured to death . daizie
I agree woof , true liberation does come from acceptance, facing truth and dealing with it, with the scum eradicated at the same time . Knowing they can not harm another soul . woofmarkthedog
So to pay back a crime we then "Legally" commit the crime as a society to pay back the criminal.Sh*t so there really is no "crime" in the first place.Nice place to live, tell me where am I ? LegalEagle-ish
and what about when some years later it turns out you killed the wrong person and he was totally innocent of the crime you'd killed him for? Or imagine your son, brother, father wrongly convicted and now dead because of the death sentence. How do you think that would affect his dependants and their view of society and justice? Tony.London Suburbs
BBC: "Saudi executioner tells all" Beshi says his job does not spoil his social life . Keef
That's just it Tony, you'd not do it, yet you'd hand that responsibility to someone else and go about your day. Keef
I also think you're on very dangerous ground when you start using religion to justify killing. Isn't that pretty much 9/11? LegalEagle-ish
So how are you going to make sure of that Tony? The statistics on miscarriages of justice are frightening. If you are banged up for 30 years for something you didn't do, at least you can be released and try to recover some of your life. You can't bring an innocent person back from the dead tho, so i don't think the death penalty is ever justified, cos if that was someone i loved killed by the state for something they hadn't done, i think i'd end up a very angry individual indeed. woofmarkthedog
Oh we are in Saudi now or want to be, gosh how wonderful.... I just love that idea of freedom. All that oil & heads rolling all day long sounds like utopia. What makes me laugh with the it's "ok in Saudi model" is if you separate the oil wealth then the royal status , you are left with a "subject" state ruled by fear & injusticeIf cutting off peoples heads worked as a deterrent then why do they need to employ a family chain to carry out the deterent that clearly doesn't deter.Move there if you like it so much.
