Genuine, original ICF Charles Eames black leather and chrome office chairs

Recommended Posts

I have four [edit, now two] genuine ICF Eames office chairs all in very good condition for their age, originally used in an occasional area of a high-end office. ?300 [edit, now ?250] each

Pics are on dropbox for higher quality - you should be able to access them whether or not you sign up to an account on this link:

They are all in full working order.

The pictures are all of the same chair however the condition of each is very similar. The leather is in very good condition with only very minimal scuffing to the four corners (the main wear area for this design). The other main damage area for this design is the backs of the arms, which show characteristic light scuffing on all four chairs. I managed to get a photo where the light is falling against the scuffs so you can see the full detail however, as the other photos show, it is by no means detrimental from any normal viewing distance. As the arms are solid aluminium, it is possible to restore them completely by rubbing down with with 'wet and dry' emery paper (available from Halfords and typically used in car bodywork repairs) however I don't think I will feel the need for the one I am keeping.

The black ribbed leather seat with metal casters (rather than fixed feet) is the classic and probably most desirable specification of this style.

The price is per chair. I would prefer to sell all four together but am also happy to split. Delivery can be arranged at cost. Any questions please email, I am usually quick to respond.

Below is some background that I have lifted from the websites of a couple of designer furniture dealers.

Background on this specific model:

Although well known to collectors, it is not general knowledge that up until 2004 these iconic Charles Eames chairs were also manufactured in Italy by the furniture makers ICF, based in Milan. ICF were one of the four original manufacturers who were granted a license by Herman Miller inc. to reproduce Charles Eames chairs. ICF manufactured licensed originals until the mid 1980s, when Vitra, based in Switzerland, were granted sole manufacturing rights for Europe and the Middle East. Now that ICF no longer manufacture these chairs, their rarity has only added to their value and used versions of the ICF chair are much sought after by Charles & Ray Eames collectors.

Background on the Eames Aluminium Group Chair range:

The Aluminium Chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century. It was originally designed for a private residence in Columbus (Indiana, USA), which was built by the architects Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard in the mid-1950s. For the construction of this chair, Charles and Ray Eames abandoned the principle of the seat shell, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminium side members to create a taut but elastic seat. The various versions of the chair oscillate between strict function, structure, human anatomy and machine-like rationality. The chair adapts to the body of the sitter and is exceedingly comfortable, even without elaborate upholstery.

Hi There, I have just been looking at the ICF Eames chairs that you are offering. Are they still available? I was looking to buy one. I notice that they are also listed on Ebay but for a lower price of ?250. If I could come and have a look at them (I live in Nunhead) would you sell one of them for ?250?

Thanks

Hi Teddy, thank you for the message.

You're absolutely right that I have subsequently put these on eBay to speed things up a bit. There are two chairs still up for grabs now and of course I would match the price here (apologies, I should have come back and updated the ad.)

You're very welcome to come by and view. I will text you to arrange.

    • As a result of the Horizon scandal it now seems very clear that the Post Office management are highly disingenuous and not be trusted!  There needs to be a campaign launched to challenge the threatened closure, unless the Post Office can demonstrate beyond doubt that the branch is loss making - and even then it could argued that better management could address this. I hope the local media take this up and our MP  and a few demonstrations outside wouldn’t do any harm. Bad publicity can be very effective!
    • Unlikely. It would take a little more than a bit of Milton to alter the pH of eighty-odd thousand gallons of water.
    • It actually feels as though what I said is being analytically analysed word by word, almost letter by better. I really don't believe that I should have to explain myself to the level it seems someone wants me to. Clearly someones been watching way too much Big Brother.
