That's the map Google displays when you search for East Dulwich - isn't it correct? I have to say that from a boundary point of view I've always considered Goose Green to be in Peckham. There is the church parish area of East Dulwich which I think may permit a wider interpretation of the boundaries of East Dulwich, as I think traditionally church parish boundaries are older than those of more modern maps, such as Google's or A-Z (based on my limited knowledge of cartography).

Well I don't know who does and who doesn't live in East Dulwich in the majority of cases with people on here.

I know some that did and have moved away.. I have no objection to people living in the area voicing their

opinions on change. I do object those living elsewhere doing so.

Would you like someone else telling you what colour to paint your living room. ?

How many people who have the privilege of having a stall on N.C. Road live here..

As for being miserabalist ? Is that a made up word?

???? are often are you out and about socializing in East Dulwich ? Actually Talking to people.

Finding out what they like / dislike about the area.

I'm certainly not miserabalist. I talk to a lot of people and involve myself in discussion and not afraid

to express my opinions. But serious debate is healthy. It's important to get out there and talk.

Not sit in the confines of a Forum where one is 'faceless'.

So stop having a pop at Louisa and myself. Get off the Forum for a couple of hours..

get out and start actually living yourself. You might like it. :)

No. I never go out, i don't know anyone in East Dulwich or any posters on this forum past or present and am entirely faceless just sitting alone in my house on the forum....

I think the boundaries Google Maps displays are for East Dulwich ward rather than the larger East Dulwich locality.

Yes it seems so. Similar confusion for Peckham where most stats quoted for the demographics etc are for the Peckham ward and not for Peckham SE15. Then the erroneous figs repeated by not only journalists and report writers but also Southwark Council officers...

It's a problem, mapping an area. Post code and ward boundaries are limited. Usually people have an imaginary line in their head. For example, I see Adys Road as a definite ED/Peckham boundary. Although if I walk down Oglander (ED) or Gowlett (Peckham) neither aftually feels like one area or the other. I think from the high street of LL and Rye Lane notions of 'place' radiate outwards in a mental heat map, until you get to the boundary.

I'll bite. That is nonsense. Top end of Oglander is in the heart of the Bellenden Rd area (of Peckham). Just because one end of it is near East Dulwich station doesn't mean it's in East Dulwich...

Where specifically hould you draw the line though? Some people clearly live in Peckham yet claim to be in East Dulwich - what evidence do they have to support their claim of being resident in East Dulwich? Whereas I live on Melbourne Grove so can quite justly go to the Cheese Block and WR on Saturdays knowing I am a proper East Dulwich resident and not an interloper.

I feel your pain Bob. I sometimes have an identity crisis as for many years despite being born and raised in Peckham, feeling ashamed of the fact and telling people I lived in ED. nowadays, especially if you're young and hip, it's kind of cool to say you're living in Peckham. ED isn't cool, it just basically makes you as posh as someone from the village would have been about 20 years ago. And I bet even then, none of those posh buggers drank milk from drained vegetables! Bonkers!

Louisa.

Yes, I agree Peckham is now for the trendies, though I am a bit of a hipster myself, despite being 45 years old and a father of three children. But basically people need to have sense of place - I know mine (East Dulwich); other people should know they live in Peckham (or Peckham Rye or Nunhead) rather than thinking they're in East Dulwich. So the EDF should be local people posting about local issues for discussion with fellow locals.
Forget Glastonbury...forget Reading and Leeds...even forget T in the Park, Bestival and the Isle of Wight...and don't even think about The Llyn Acoustic Guitar Festival (starts tomorrow BTW)...I give you the EDF TrollFest, headlining with Bob and Louisa on the Circle (of Perpetual Nonsense) Stage...

I went to Glastonbury and Reading this year (as I do every year, apart from Glastonbury's fallow year) - I was doing voluntary work at those events with the a charity that I regularly volunteer with. But that's beside the point of this thread - How representative of East Dulwich is the EDF?

    • Hello everyone, It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. I am a home-visit hairdresser based in SW London. It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. Some of you know me already. I posted a while back so I just want to re-introduce myself. I have been working as a hairdresser for the past 20 years (I'm 50, I trained at Vidal Sassoon and had a salon of my own, Top To Toe in Morden Jan 2000-Dec 2004) but now I just do freelance cutting hair for clients in their homes. I am available to answer queries if anyone has any? My speciality is cutting - men, women and children. I do have colour expertise so can advise but I do not colour hair at home. Thank you. There may be members of the forum who remember me coming to their home to do their hair in the 1990s! I have used the forum for a long time, as well also the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) newsletters back in the day. I have many clients with babies - it's one of the many reasons that people choose a home hairdresser. I always allow an hour and a half just in case there are interruptions in the haircut so that we are under no pressure. Finally I always make a policy to mention to new clients that I am transgender woman. I transitioned in 2009 and have reached the point when I "look" perfectly acceptable (I think, There is a profile photo which is up-to-date) however I make a point of being open about my history. If you are OK with that then I would be happy to cut your hair at your earliest convenience. My practice is that you do not wash your hair before I see you and I bring all equipment and styling products with me. All you need is shampoo and conditioner. p.s. If you do look at my website, I happen to be an artist and my website reflects that rather than hairdressing. Victoria Cantons
