On another thread (which I don't want to hijack) someone said this.

So is the EDF truly representative of East Dulwich?

For what it's worth, I don't think it is. It's representative of a large number of residents, but another large number are very much under represented.

Hoping for a discussion rather than a load of the usual.

Under 18's definitely fall into the latter, and to a lesser extent the over 60's.

Good luck! :)

Think it's pretty obvious that it's not representative. It's comprised mainly of people with cushy office jobs. Or cushy "work-from-home" jobs.

Anyone who actually has to work hard for a living (including the much maligned "yummy mummies") don't have time to spend on here.

This forum is not representative of ED generally, no. In fact it does sometimes irk me how people who don't really know the area, but have read the forum, assume certain things (generally negative) about the are which I wouldn't personally hold to be true.

If the views of everyone here on EDF were the same, then a comparison could be made with the rest of E.D. residents.

But as peoples views of EDF users and the views of Non EDF users will both differ no real conclusion of any

relevant representation can be made....

Life goes on with or without EDF. and in the long run EDF has no more influence over what happens in the

community that what other people are doing.

So true. Totally agree.

ETA: The top part of the post rather than the bottom, after what Otta said!

Also, people who have retired, as well as those who just don't get out much, preferring (or needing, for whatever reason) to spend their time in front of a computer screen in a virtual world.

It has over the years spawned some of the best threads ever. Breast feeding in the MIND Shop was absolute gold! But as with other sections, a lot of former posters have drifted away. Possibly because they're past that early stages when parenthood feels so new and exciting, but I know a few that just got fed up.

Definitely not representative however I'd say that's true for most forums of this kind.

Ed issues section probably captures the hot topics but generally posters tend to have similar views although it may not seem that way at times. The lounge just has older (40s and upwards I'd say) posters who enjoy the humour and banter. The multiple logins that agree with themselves are faintly amusing I guess. Don't think young ones bother posting much.

Agree with Jeremy on those with time on their hands posting more or else those who are bored at work and have the added bonus of being able to participate. I used to post more when I had a cushy work from home number now I'm doing long hours that's all come to a sad end. Apart from the recent *Bob* and *Louisa* head to head over cinema prices (classic!) it's been dull here anyway. I don't think good ol' SJ lurks anymore either I can't feel his presence. Worried we are losing el pibe too. Hooch, Brendan, Ted, Rosie abd Moos much missed.

Some interesting new posters worth reading though so not all bad. Not in SE22 anymore though I suspect I'm in the majority there in the lounge at least.

I don't think young people, hell even those under 30s, use forums at all so I am not sure this is even sligthly representative. It's all verry old fashioned - they're all Instanting or to busy having sex off Tinder/Grinder etc.

Certainly the vast majority of frequent lounge posters that I know are 40+ or near that milestone. and those that I don't suggest they are aronud that range in terms of their likes/dislikes topics etc.

Forums are for oldies.

Of the posters so far, how many live in ED? Has anyone never lived in ED?

If a large percentage of EDF users don't live here then it must dilute how representative it is of ED itself.

I live here, but if you were to merge all ED males into one being, I might make it as a fingernail.

Forums may be old fashioned but I wonder how many under 30's who aren't kids actually live here. Maybe the EDF users would be closer to being representative of ED if that were true...

Anyway, I must try this........blow ins
