Hi I'm new to the forum. I lived in east dulwich until 1967, in Rodwell Road and got married in St. Clement's church Barry road in 1966. At the time it was a new building made with yellow house bricks can anyone tell me if there was an old St. Clement's which this one replaced. I believe there is a church in Friern Road called St. Clements and St. Peters. Has anyone got any old photos of the one that was in Barry road near the corner of Underhill road going from the rye up towards the plough on the left.waiting hopefully thanks

Yes, the original St Clement's was bombed and totally destroyed dring WW2. All that remains is the lid of the original font, which is still in the church (horrid looking thing). The church was rebuilt and in the 80s (I think) it joined forces with St Peters (Church with tall steeple opposite Grove Tavern / Harvester) and became St Clement's with St Peter's.

Then the monks who lived at St Peter's went back to their mother Abbey (a place called Worth Abbey), and St Peter's got sold off, leaving St Clement's with the joint parish.

Couple of small photos of the old church here
