Jah Lush
Aha ha ha ha. Rotten pigeon English or some sort of Franglais. With you on the beer front though. Brendan
I went in last night for a pint. I like the decor. 'sbout all I can say at this stage. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/635-the-plough-pub/page/12/#findComment-28629 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
what time were you there Bren? I was there from 6:30 to near 10(having a house meeting of all things) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/635-the-plough-pub/page/12/#findComment-28630 Share on other sites
Brendan
I was there from about 10:20 - 11. Popped in by myself for a pint, partly out of curiosity and partly because I wanted to have a smoke and a pint somewhere where I could sit down. The bar staff were also very friendly. Brendan
I went in again last night as Mrs B was curious to see what they?ve done. The gent?s loos aren?t half posh! I thought I had walked into the ladies until I noticed the urinals. :-SI ordered a Broadside and it was served up in a jug. (tu):))They don?t have stools at the bar though. I always find that a bit unfriendly in a pub. (td) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/635-the-plough-pub/page/12/#findComment-28720 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
I've gone from wanted a decent boozer on my doorstep to wishing it wasn't there (but in a good way)I was always able to get home from work, hop off at the library and walk the yards to home without ever even THINKING of stopping for one... whereas now I find it all too hard to not think "If I have just one, I'll be able to finish this chapter)It's not a perfect pub by any means but I do find myself in there more than I thought I would.. Bleep
Aye, I agree. I live but a 10 second crawl away, and before I'd usually pass the assortment of sphincter-eyed denizens by the window with the thought of "there's no way I'd go in there" but now...there's Schneider-Weisse to entice me in. Brendan
I know what you mean. I went in again last night. This time because my neighbour popped his head over the fence and suggested we go see what it's like. Jah Lush
I was in there too Brendan or rather on the garden sofa from about 6.30 to 8.45, smoking a constant supply of Luckies and drinking pints of Harveys. It's like having a brand new local boozer to go to. Marvellous. Xanadustar
What has become of the chavscum? Have they relented and given up or are they still hanging around being loud and anti-social? Bleep
I was in there too last night drinking Harveys. There was a small coterie of chavscum hanging about outside when I left at 9. Xanadustar
Might give it another go then, but as a dedicated nicotene addict, I did find my enjoyment of tobacco in their wonderful facilities was tempered by the loud and uncouth noise, cackling and general unpleasnt atmosphere emanating from some of the die-hards. Jah Lush
If you've not been in there yet then give it a go Xanadustar. I'm sure you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I've been on the two visits I've made since they've reopened. Xanadustar
Me and the old man went in on opening night and were very impressed with the garden and exlusive de-luxe smoking area. Unforch we also had to witness the removal of a singularly unpleasnt individual who hadn't seemed to realise that smoking in public places is now illegal, along with this coterie of other ASBO types. Shame really as apart from that it was rather pleasant! SeanMacGabhann
Yep - first couple of evenings I saw a bit of that going on as well. Hence the bouncers every evening thereafter (although I didn't see any on Tue when I went)Anyway - I figured the first weekend would have been the breakthrough when lot's of the old regulars would have turned up for the first time and decided wether they wanted in or out... Haven't seen any repeat incidents since (of course now I've SAID that...) Brendan
I do actually hope that the old regulars (not the trouble causing element) still feel comfortable there and frequent the place. Louisa
Keef, I remember you suggesting that LL was much wider back in day from the picture I posted on this thread? .... Well, I did some research and indeed it was wider, much wider.. The buildings opposite the Plough were all replacements following bomb damage. Before that in the early half of the century, that whole area was an open space unused leading onto a cobbled road. Keef
BumpedI went for a roast in The Plough yesterday. 3 of us ate, so had the beef, lamb and veggie between us. Mrs Keef was impressed with the veggie one. And both the beef and lamb were very nice, as was the yorkshire pud (which came with all of them).Decent portions, and nice trimmings. Only down point was the spuds, which tasted like they'd been cooked a while before and had been sitting there waiting to be reheated. Think the roasts are 12 - 6, and we got there about 4, so that might explain it, but not really a good excuse.Still, with the exception of the spuds, it was really nice, and I would go back. Plus at ?8.50, it was a good price compared to others down the bottom of Lordship Lane. Brendan
I walked past last Sunday (I think it was last Sunday) and heard music issuing from the beer garden. MadWorld74
It is a regular haunt for myself and Mr MW74. The Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir is the BEST BEST BEST in ED! Mr MW74 is very fond of the Moroccan Lamb Chops. The chavs are in there still. But after a while they f*ck off to the Uplands. I over heard a conversation on Thursday night at the bar and it went like this...Bloke 1: "Ere Tel, are you out on the pull tonight then or what?"Bloke 2: "Nah aint got a chance in ere with all these posh b*tches. I'll ave a couple and then pop off dahwn the Uplands in a bit. Alright in there" I kind you not.
