Does anyone remember this martial arts group that operarted all over London,it came to mind when i saw a picture in the paper where kids were being trained to kill brutalised abnd brainwashed.

The group i mentioned operated in a strange way, they taught the martial art but also made people go awawy in the woods for the weekend just giving them bread and water.

Also they made groups stare at candles while the mo jo master sung the praises of the masters. The masters wore black outfits with red bandanas and sashes they were investigated and found to be fraudelent,

its just that when i see certain destroyers of islam it reminds me of them.

They're called KIXA these days. AFAIK the only London club is a ladies only class in Thornton Heath.

Personally I'm highly dubious of martial arts classes for ladies only. If you're unlucky enough to need to use self defence skills one day, there is a high chance that your attacker will be a man. If you haven't practised with a variety of oafish chaps, then all those classes (and in KIXA's case, breathing exercises...) will have left you horribly unprepared as well as possibly unrealistically overconfident.

But anyway on the brainwashing, lots of martial arts organisations out there veer toward the cultish. KIXA has had a strong rep as one of them... but based on a distinctly rubbish demo 5 years ago in Bedford (before I blew in from the Shires), if any would be wee terrorists learned this particularly p***poor art, we would not have much to fear from them!

I remember a kateda class I went to with my karate chums on IOW on mid-eighties.

We thought the whole thing was a joke, what with squatting on your toes and the weird stances.

Then, the leader SId who's the strongest puncher in our group and we have him Dave who had scary power, the leader tool his top off and told Dave to bit him in the stomach, harder, harder, harder.

We couldn't believe the guy's resilience because Dave had broke many people with lesser power than that.

We respected their form a bit more after that, though it was at odds with Gojo Ryu - I think they said Kateda was from Iraq or something.

Yep, that's their main party trick. Like Houdini's similar conditioning, it's impressive. I bet Dave wasn't invited to repeat his attack to any other part of the body though! I really hope that's not the main thing they teach all their ladies' classes, although I rather fear it is?

I did martial arts for a while, but stopped around 7 years ago. But the instructor was very keen on making sure the women practised a lot of kicks, "in case you're carrying shopping in both hands" (and it wasn't even a joke).

But anyway, one of the things I took away from it was that it's hard to really prepare for a real life attack unless you train so regularly that muscle memory starts to kick in. And also that the strikes which could potentially get you out of trouble quickly against a stronger opponent (eyes/throat/balls, maybe stamp to knee) are almost impossible to practise in a controlled environment.

There are better ways to keep safe than learning to fight.

The Kateda classes then were held in a massive sports stadium in SHEPHERDSbush there were classes from all over the place.

We were there to get tested for the belts, there were mass demonstrations of men and women having bricks broken on there stomaches..

I was clandestined doing it as it was under investigatio, the martial heart itself originated in MAylasia

AND THE Philipines, the masters were mainly nigerian and my class master was called Ali and he was from Iran,

Itwas in the papers at the time and they were not a kids class they only excepted teenagers.they were very persuasive and made people do a hundred press ups if they got a move wrong, they were intimadating. Iwould not be surprised if Isis hadits roots in that organisation. All brain stealing asses.Of course its only a theory.

    • Yes, it would be great to see them nationalised. Along with the other water companies they seem to have a great business model: -submit a 5 year plan to the regulator asking for yearly price increases to cover the cost of improving the infrastructure and get them to approve it - carry on paying handsome dividends to shareholders and eye watering salaries to senior executives  - fail to achieve the infrastructure targets at the end of the five years, make some excuses and draw up the next plan Magic!

Agree with other comments that it is best to talk to lots of people.  Also, (not particularly related to the above agent), I wish I had read the reviews a lot more, rather than relying on numbers.  Depending on whether you are renting, letting, selling or buying the reviews often differ a lot depending on the relationship you have with the agent and it is worth checking whether the good/bad reviews match your situation.
