andypandy
Has anyone noticed that Surma aren't really marketting their restaurant as effectively as the management might have intended?I am looking forward to seeing their "Established Winning Home" and having their "1976 Restaurant Delivery" - luckily that decor is back in vogue....(see picture attached) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/6316-surma-curry-house-award-free-apparently/ Share on other sites

LibraCarr
Dear Andy Pandy,I think you have clearly lost the plot as you should be eating pudding and pie's!! Are you sure you eat at the Surma in Dulwich, Dulwich is a very large area you may have got confused with the lower rate rating restaurants near by. I often eat at the Surma and I've always found their food exceptional and the staff are always friendly and polite, so please remind me which (Surma) did you attend??If you note the restaurant opposite they have some dumb blonde tart staring into space writing that the food is gorgeous and the fact that Joanna Lumley eats their as well! Yeh Right!Perhaps you may have got confused with the Mirash which is still 70's style decor (OK if you are a curry loving Abba fan).If you walked down Lordship Lane tonight you will have noted that the Surma has more 'bums on seats' than any other restaurant - clearly that speaks that it is the more prefered venue as it offers a set buffet at the same price as other venue's.I give my view as a Chef and critic and feel that innane comments about our revered restaurants on Lordship Lane is only bad for the area and certainly will not help the local economy.I await your reply,Libra Carr. andypandy
Libra Carr In almost 10 years in ED I have never eaten in Surma. I can not possibly comment on the quality of the food I'm sure it is of the highest standard. I do enjoy the odd Cuzza. However Looby Loo isn't so keen on the calorie rich treats so these days visits and far between. Needless to say when Looby Loo is next away with Martin Clunes/ Evan Davis I shall consider Surma and post my views on this forum.I also cannot comment on the interior decor however an original 70's scheme would appeal - anyone been into Omrith lately? (dreadful decor)I have not noticed Joanna Lumley in the restaurant opposite - you seem to say she works there...I would not call her dumb though, her recent endevours to fight the cause of the Gurkhas is not to be sniffed at. I have eaten at THAT restaurant and have found the the food is extreemly fresh and tasty (unlike the review, from the "Dumb Blond" author of Brick Lane- as you mention). Ms Ali is clearly not Blond. I suspect you were commenting on her gaze, obviously she is contemplating a desert. As for my "innane comments", they were mearly an observation concerning the window signage and nothing more. I suspect you did not see the attached picture that I refered to in my post. Long live ED Curry, it consumes more bytes (pun intended) than just about anything else on this ForumAPLibraCarr Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Dear Andy Pandy,> > I think you have clearly lost the plot as you> should be eating pudding and pie's!! > > Are you sure you eat at the Surma in Dulwich,> Dulwich is a very large area you may have got> confused with the lower rate rating restaurants> near by. Jeremy
LibraCarr - why so touchy? What's with the bitchy comments about Tandoori Nights? Is there a vested interest here perchance?I eat a lot of curry... and I mean a LOT... Surma is firmly in the "bog-standard" bracket. The milder dishes are bland, the hotter dishes are one-dimensional, both are too greasy. The one time I had meat from the tandoor, it was far too tough.
