From what I know, Bohemian initially referred to something/one from Bohemia which was in Eastern Europe somewhere. At some stage in history a large amount of Bohemian people (for some or other reason I?m not sure of) became gypsies of sorts. They spread into France where the term Bohemian became used to describe someone who lived an alternative lifestyle.

So maybe it is a bar for East Dulwich?s Eastern European community.

wikipedia says this about it:

"Bohemians are the people of Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, inhabitants of the former Kingdom of Bohemia, located in the modern day Czech Republic. The ancient Kingdom of Bohemia was absorbed into the Habsburg Empire after 1527 and came under the control of Vienna.

The name "Bohemia" derives from the Latin term for the Celtic tribe inhabiting that area, the Boii, who were called Boiohaemum in the early Middle Ages. The word "Bohemians" was never used by the local Czech (Slavic) population. In Czech, the region since the early Middle Ages has been called only ?echy ("Bohemia") or Kr?lovstv? ?esk? ("Kingdom of Bohemia"), and its mainly Czech-speaking inhabitants were called ?echov? (in modern Czech ?e?i)."

Why is :Black cherry/Bishop/EDT/Liquirish = good, Boho Bar = bad : then ?

Because so-called 'young people' will drink there, with their haircuts, and their jeans, and their devil-may-care attitudes.

As far as I can tell they are bringing the area down.

Keep up Snorky.

Now this is only what I was told by a poetry declaiming tatterdemalion at a Brixton shebeen the other night.

And bear in mind we'd been drinking absinthe shandies and had both smoked our share of tea.

But he said he had it on good authority that Tom Waits was coming over to cut the ribbon to the bar on the official opening evening.

And he's going to use the rusty scissors that's all that he's got to remind him of a former seamstress girlfriend.

The rust is from all the nights he spent crying over them in that motel.

I can't wait, me.

    • yes of course you are, more than entitled to do so, I was just showing what my experience had been, sorry to hear of your problems with trying to get them to help you.
    • I don't think H&B can be doing very well. I went in yesterday to collect my order (lots of nuts. I freeze them. I eat a lot of nuts). The place was empty. The manager, who seemed to be the only member of staff  there, was very helpful (I had to remove the nuts from the box to fit the order into my backpack, as the box wouldn't fit, so I think in future I will stick to getting things delivered!) But then he said, have a look around, you can have 10% off. But I didn't want to look around, because if there had been anything I wanted I would have added it to my order and got 22% off! Just wondering if they are offering everybody a discount to try to get people to buy things? I felt a bit sorry for him, rattling around by himself in a big empty shop.
    • Their sausage and mash was an absolute bargain in the days when they did a really good veggie sausage and gravy. Then they got a new chef. The veggie sausages (I assume bought in, and from a different - presumably cheaper - source)  became absolutely disgusting, verging on inedible. So no longer a bargain. If you are looking for a bargain lunch, head to Chern Thai, near the station. Lunchtime special 12 -3 Monday to Friday. £9 for a main, £12 for main plus starter. Thai lager on draft.  Very nice food and lovely people.
    • They have considerably upped their prices since the refurb, in the larger shop at least  (though to reflect generally better quality clothes etc being sold, to be fair) so they can probably afford it. It's "vintage" now, not "charity shop." 🤣 Annoying for people like me who have always frequented charity shops and found bargains, and now there are loads of people shopping there, and very few real bargains! I'm assuming it's the same trend for the children's shop as for adult charity shops.
