Definitely not the 70s. They had the Mag before they got their hands on the Cherry Tree, so early to mid 90s I should think.

Hi Jah Lush..

Back in the 70's 1974 ish I was the only one with a car and used to ferry all my mates from pub to pub.

The Old Kings Head Blackfriars Rd. / The Hole in the Wall Borough high St. / The Magdala / Two Brewers Clapham..

In those days it was acceptable to 3 pints and still be under the (then) limit.

A few dives there I must add.. Two Brewers was a fine music venue with Steve Waller playing... Sunday Nights.

AAARRRRGHHH just googled it and the one in Wandsworth has become a Young's Inn ie a HOTEL GRRRRRR

Can't think of much worse though I guess it was always a Young's pub.

Back to the Cherry Tree, so when is it reopening then?

And will it still be called the Cherry Tree ?

By the way. What is the best pub review site these days

(beerintheevening seems to be dying).

The Vale (they won't choose that ??)

It has so much potential.

Wasn't it The New Hamlet Inn in the 90s?

I think it has bags of potential if done right. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it has got to show sports. They'd get loads of footfall on Saturdays after Dulwich Hamlet matches.

I know not everyone wants sport, but to be honest there are WAY more places that don't show it than do these days, so it's not like they have nowhere to go (which may have been the case 10 years ago).

I don't think they do. Even the world cup or something like that, I can't see it being shown at several of the pubs in ED these days.

I'm not suggesting it should be a sports bar, but definitwely showing the football at the weekends would bring in business.

I'd be surprised if the swanky new Bishop bar and kitchen continues to show sports.

Oddly enough The Cherry Tree was one of the few pubs that would show Millwall games.

Not that Millwall have many games on TV.

The EDT with 3 screens are not allowed through company policy to screen Millwall games.

The Castle also Screens Millwall games.

    • I had no idea about the sourcing of the paving stones - where is the info on this? The extension of the paved area seems completely unjustified- plus, there is a cycle lane right thru the middle so there are bound to be some near misses with pedestrians.
    • That's really awful. There must be someone further up the management chain who could be made aware of this?
    • I'm assuming that anybody who has a cat can afford  its food, litter, vets' fees etc. Nobody was saying that two quid is "nothing", but it's cheaper than some brands of cat litter, so was hopefully useful to the OP. Still, hopefully your post made you feel better 👍 🤣 We still don't know why there was a bag of cat litter at the bus stop! Surely it would be rather difficult to take it away unnoticed if the owner of the cat litter was  also at the bus stop? It's not like someone distracted your attention and picked your pocket and you didn't notice till some time later! But what is also confusing me is, if the OP knows where the thief lives, why don't they go and ask for their cat litter back?
    • The market is only there for a few hours on Saturdays! Surely all street markets are "a bit tatty"! That seems a strange reason to close a road permanently to traffic!  There is already at least one seat  in North Cross Road (which seems to be quite well used),  apart from those for customers of The Palmerston,  and several of the shops in the road have greenery outside
