Hi, macutd, also disrupted my sleep and to my knowledge that was a chinook helicopter maybe even more than one which I thought were military based, not police! Could be wrong. Hope everyone got back to sleep! :-D zzz...

ANY UPDATES on the dramatic events that unfolded in the early hours of this morning?

Chinooks never appeared, just the Red Arrows, and HEMS (although I think they were otherwise engaged)

Low cloud cover and defence cuts

Was expecting the Battle of Britain Memorial Spit, Hurricane & Lanc, but no joy

Yes, the Chinook did some circuits around Denmark Hill then landed in Ruskin Park at 2am and for perhaps 10 mins. Those rotors really clatter so triggered a broken night's sleep. The RAF often send in Puma, Merlin and Chinook helicopters for practicing evacuation and extraction in times of 'emergency' .. whatever that means.
