Songs you absolutely detest..

Some outstanding contributions from everyone - Queen - always! The Joker by Steve Miller Band? yes (not as bad as Abracadabra tho surely?)

But Quids original Come on Eileen suggestion - that is still the ultimate nightmare for me. I hated it then.. and then was when I was at my most chart friendly... and I hate it more now

As for Madonna/Madge/Esther/ThatblokewholookslikeagirlandeventhoIdontlikeherImight... Material Girl has always stuck in my craw. To do that song in a faux-ironic way but mean it really... and that voice. Awww sheeet I'm upset again now

Candle in the wind (both versions) by Britain's luckiest pub singer......I hated the original, vehemently, don't even get me started on the English Rose or whatever sentimental gushy, crap name that IT was given, I avoided the radio for f*ckin' weeks (and the TV as it happens).

Omar's There's nothing like this - a doobyweeooo - tautological soft soul nightmare: "we take a sip of cold champagne wine, the rug that we lie on feels divine". Champagne wine, is it, is it, IS IT?

BoyzIIMen, End of the Road - terrible whiny awfulness of unparalleled, frankly staggering arrogance : "You really love me, you just don't realise, you've never been there before this is only your first time"

I want to kill them a lot and then kill them some more

Wuthering Heights is a catchy pop song.

It sticks in your mind, your pop mind that is.

The beauty and elegance of the song can't be overstated, it's timeless and beautiful.

Some mock and of course parody Kate Bush's performance.

You snigger a bit, but soon realise how wrong they are.

And then settle down in the knowledge that Wuthering Heights is a piece of sublime pop genius and anyone who says different will probably attend the Spandua Ballet reunion.

See you suckers.

RosieH, agree with you about Omar. Ludicrous.

But that particular BoyzIIMen song? I thought they got the balance between sentimentality, banal though decent pop lyrics and good harmonies just spot on.

Always tweaked and touched my heart. And it continues to do so.

Always sing along with it. Badly. Very badly.

I'm sorry, but no. No, no, no In all things I bow to your exquisite tastes HB, but in this I'm afraid you're quite quite wrong. Like nails down a blackboard, this bunch of warbling soul-lite barber quarteters bring shame on Motown and pain to my soul. Somebody should gag them with one of their own cricket jumpers while their erstwhile laydeee tells them, "No, I don't ree-ee-eeally love you, never did: your songs are shit, your attitude offensive and your clothes even worse, and your warbly-whining really gets on my tits. This is indeed the end of the road sir, as I am trading you in for a newer, more exciting model, perhaps a Ford Focus or a Peugeot DriveSexy"

Amazingly, for some bizarre reason this post made me think of another song at around the same time called 'living by numbers' by new muzik (I liked that though)!

Yeah, that and 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman'.

I feel like chucking up just thinking about it.
