yes this seems a very good idea to try. Fantastic. I look forward with great pleasure to hearing such an announcement for the first time! Years of frustration fall away!

Personally, I think that stations get a bit announcement-heavy and I turn off. Do we really need the 'don't leave your bags unattended' message every five minutes? Especially with the grave, but over the top, "THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT" lead in.

I think a better solution would be a set of armed, plain clothed 'enforcement officers', who travel the lines and kneecap offenders. Offenders will only ever do it twice.

I have created a job vacancy just for you loz!

Hi Barry

Any idea what has been happening to the 08:05 train from ED to London Bridge this week? I have been late for work every day so far this week because of late running or cancelled trains and once I have managed to catch one there is no room to breathe due to being squashed in like sardines! Is it worth catching the bus into work for the rest of the week until whatever the problem is is sorted?

This also relates to my earlier postings regarding the speakers as we can't hear why the train is late and when it is due.

Apologies for the moan, I think you do a fantastic job Barry, I'm just fed up of waiting in the cold and being late for work!

Good afternoon

A few updates and keeping you in the loop

Pay As You Go formally announced this morning with Boris Johnson, Lord Adonis plus many others today Balham Station. You will be able to see the bulletins on BBC and ITV local news this evening. Saturday 2nd January 2010 is the go live date

East Dulwich Passenger handrails for the pathways have been agreed and monies will be signed off this week

North Dulwich booking hall ceiling is now finished, once the plaster is dry, a coat of paint will be applied

Peckham Rye scaffolding will be dismantled in the next fortnight, all graffiti from the tower and building has now been removed

The canopy structures at Peckham will be done, however I am still waiting for dates, this will more likely be completed in the new year

This also applies to the booking hall at Peckham

Quotes for new speakers for East Dulwich have now been sent through, I should be able to sign these works off today

An additional Ticket Vending Machine has been acquired for East Dulwich (credit card only) and will be installed in the next few weeks. I am also seeking an extra one for Peckham Rye.

New shelter for South Bermondsey has been ordered (only one exists and severely damaged), however I am still waiting for agreement to be reached regarding East Dulwich

Thats it for now, and will update further this week

Great news about Oyster PAYG, something which all TOC's should've agreed to years ago.

Anyway, I've been reading conflicting reports that each TOC including Southern will charge it's own Oyster PAYG fares instead of the current integrated paper ticket pricing we currently have based on the travelcard zonal system. Any truth in this and when will publicity be available on how much we'll be charged from Jan 2nd?

Ooh I've thought of another request. Barry could you ask the relevant person if it's possible to have a later train than 11.48pm from LB to ED. When I have got it it's been busy so I think there'd be demand for a later one or two. I know there are night buses but I have had many a bad experience with night buses and I'm too stingy to get a cab when I have a travelcard already. Sorry I promise i'll stop requesting things one day!

Sorry but Pidgeon is just plain WRONG.

Their are national rail fares, Undeground fares and bus fares on PAYG.

Thus if you get a trip from a Zone 5 National Rail station into central London you are charged the same wherever you are regardless of the operator........although it is true to same that difference will still exist between NR and LUL fares.

Significantly simplified - but some paper fares are being withdrawn and for some off peak fares will be more expensive than today ..........all to make it simpler .........

Hi Sophie, unfortunately adding services etc does not come under my remit. All time table changes etc are compiled 18months to 2 years in advance by our planning department

Sorry

hi

I have faulted this again, I do not understand why this light keeps faulting. I have stated to my facilities dept that the electrical engineers must investigate the cause

This is on a 4 hour call out

Hopefully we can get this rectified once and for all

Not a problem Barry, I just thought you might know the person to ask. I've just filled out a contact form on the Southern website requesting a later service - even if it doesn't happen for 2 years it will still be good then if they decide to do it. Thanks very much.

    • Good morning everyone, I wanted to share a crowdfunder link - funds to go to Akif Mushtaq's family - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/akif-mushtaq-rip---fundraising-for-his-family I have personally lived in the area for almost 25 years now and have known the brothers who run the dry cleaners for almost that long. As some of you may be aware, very tragically Akif - of East Dulwich Dry Cleaners (family business on Lordship Lane near the post office) - was horrifically killed by a dangerous dog a few weeks ago.  https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/dulwich-in-shock-after-owner-of-lovely-family-business-dies-in-tragic-dog-attack/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7ve32ejqp1o It was a huge shock for me so I just cannot comprehend what his family are feeling right now. Akif had young children who will be left without a father. He was such a lovely man, always smiling and good humoured - joking about how good his wife's cooking was and how he had gained some weight. We always had a laugh and he was never in a bad mood whenever I popped in. As it was so sudden and shocking, I think the main thing that the family may need is financial help to get cover whilst they keep the business open but also take some time off to grieve. As a gesture of support I wanted to set up a Crowdfunder, so if anyone would like to donate it is here: Please spread the word to anyone who uses the business or who knows the Mushtaq family. Very best wishes
    • https://www.londoncentric.media/p/london-transport-explained-in-nine-graphs-and-charts 9. Cycling is more popular after the pandemic but is still a niche form of transport.       Cycling boomed in the pandemic, aided by the rush to invest in bike lanes and low-traffic neighbourhoods, which has pushed the number of bike journeys up by a quarter to 1.33 million journeys per day. Yet the overall picture is more mixed. Cycling remains a fairly niche way of getting around the capital compared to buses and the tube, while previous TfL research has shown it’s a mode of transport largely used by teenagers (who are short on cash and can’t legally drive) or older, richer, white men. Shaking the perception that it’s for those two demographic groups — potentially by embracing the ability of rental e-bikes such as Lime and Forest to entice new demographics into cycling — will be key to moving the dial.
