Brendan
Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages and was common all over Europe and the Middle East. I made some a few years ago. Tasted great but my tummy didn?t like it the next day. I don?t think the drink is specifically important. Where I grew up in SA the Irish ex-pats celebrated St Patrick?s Day very successfully sans the benefit of Guinness or even stout. Most importantly they made a point of getting together and getting everyone (not just Irish people) involved and part of the jolly. The poms never did anything on St George?s except perhaps the educated ones would make some mention of Shakespeare?s alleged birth/death day. So my advice. Stop looking for excuses and just get out there and celebrate it. Dress up like Bertie Wooster or Vicky Pollard if you must and spread some Limwey loving. Brendan
Doesn?t willy?s day have something to do with May Poles? Well I suppose your national day doesn?t have to be your patron saint?s day. Brendan
I work with a few Spaniards and to mark St George?s day they give all the ladies red roses. It signifies the blood of the dragon apparently. So there are roses in the office today which is nice.
