Mugged by gang of boys

Last night my boyfriend and I were mugged by a group of 4 or 5 boys, it all happened very quickly, just after 12am. It happened on the crossroads by Dunstans Rd/Underhill Rd. They ran after us and jumped my boyfriend, punching and kicking him, and then a couple of them cornered me to stop me screaming. They didn't want our cash cards or my handbag, just seemed to want cash or mobiles. We reported the incident to the police and they've said there have been a number of incidents recently of reports of a group of boys targeting couples around East Dulwich.

A big thank you to the lady who banged on her window and helped scare the boys off, I don't know what we'd have done otherwise.

Well I wasn't there loddy but I'm sure their trousers were hanging below their arse, they were wearing hoodies and the word 'Blud' featured pretty heavily and no, before you ask it wasn't TLS.

On a more serious note these vermin should be handcuffed and thrown down a flight of stairs.

to be honest it all happened so quickly it's hard to give a really good description. but you're not far off bigbadwolf, they were quite young, early 20s, no hoodies but one was wearing a bandana (black and white we think) which the police said sounds like one of the local gangs, baggy low slung jeans etc. it was all very scary and intimidating. they looked like they were just wandering the quiet streets looking for something to happen, and it certainly felt like it wasn't the first time they'd done it. they ran off up dunstans road (towards forest hill end), which is the direction they initially came from.

mlewis you have my sympathy for what that is worth, I am sure, if you are like me, would prefer some vengeance.

Were the youths a black and white gang or was the bandana black and white?

Wouldn't it be good to be armed when these creeps attack, so you can pay them out in full, there and then on the street,

because the judiciary we have cannot cope with 21st century urban life.

Some years ago there was a commuting guy who paid out five muggers on the train in New York.

One of the creeps went towards him waving a sharpened screwdriver in front of his face, "ya got 5 bucks for me man,"

he said "sure here," and reached into his pocket pulled out his gun, shot all of them and one was still moving "here have another".

Muggings dropped by 14% in New York the following year.

That case divided New York, all the people who had been mugged felt it was justified, the leftish leaning, bleeding heart liberals of course were incensed and no doubt all the other ne'er-do-wells, but for all the victims of robbery of which there are many, felt that he had finished some unfinished business for which they now had 'closure'.

Why should this town become a no-go area after dark, because a handful of uncivilised thieving youth, move around in marauding gangs.

We have discussed the vital importance of descriptions of perpetrators before on this forum and if you can think of anything that you can add, it would be helpful not only to the police but also to the rest of the forum.

What a dreadful bank holiday you have had better luck for the future.

I feel sorry for the original poster because its scum like that that stops people going out and going about their daily lives hope your both OK. The problem in this country is if your boyfriend kung fu'd them all into the A and E department at kings he would have been in trouble with the Police, Lets hope they get caught soon.

Just to be clear, SteveT, what you're saying is that you'd prefer a safer, less fearful society - and that it can be achieved with easy access to lethal weaponry for all, and the full weight of the law behind you whenever you use it.

The thing I find worse than this event is the majority of responses on this thread.

Proposing the administration of various types of corporal punishment, the return of National Service and um, relaxed gun control to encourage vigilantism / taking the law into ones own hands.

I fear that horrible dystopia far more than I fear gangs of teenagers.

Steve T read the description properly. She clearly says the bandana was either black or white. And the Getz case you refer to gained notoriety because he actually shot one of the perps in the back as he was escaping. That doesnt diminish the crime the perp and his mates carried out -but it does contextualise the case.

I don't know anyone in law enforcement who honestly believes arming civilians is a sensible way forward. What happened to mlewis is ghastly and a reality -not an excuse for some half arsed "Death Wish" masutbatory fantasy.

Re the incident itself, let's hope they are caught - and hope you are ok MLewis.

Lenk - On balance I think it's better than no post at all. And condolences mlewis. You have to assume the majority of the EDF is well rounded enough to put it into context. Wishful thinking but I think the majority of us do.

I've been robbed at knife point once when I was 16 ( Stirling Scotland) where I ended up in A&E and no mini cab would take me to the hospital as they didn't want blood on their seats. Unpleasant but makes you forever streetwise. I can spot a gait, verbal , body language a mile off now and make a judgement call at the time. But it can be difficult if you have no other route to take. Self preservation - anyone who has been through similar (or from similar areas) will know what I mean.

So I take this thread as a reminder to be streetwise and not cause for mass middle class fear on the mean streets of SE22.

I suppose the question that should be asked is this level of crime 'normal' the background noise to living in a major city or is an upward trend being discerned. I have lived in ED for over 20 years and travel daily on the 12 bus to the Victoria area - the amount of police crime scenes I pass has noticeably gone up in the last year or two - in fact went to B&Q on the Old Kent Road and passed the night club which is next to MacDonalds closed off with police tape and a forensic team on the scene. Sadly I would say a battle is being lost and whilst we can say the two recent murders in Barry Road were targeted rather than random - they are still 2 murders on our doorstep and the degree of anti social behaviour - well we just turn our heads away and don't look them in the eyes....
