WHO IS IT FOR?

If you want to start making your own clothes, this workshop offers the perfect introduction with an easy-peasy pyjama bottoms project using the Margot sewing pattern. You?ll need to be able to use a sewing machine first ? this is a great follow on class from our Make Friends With a Sewing Machine workshop.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

How to start using sewing patterns and read their markings

Techniques for cutting out fabric accurately

The basics of clothing construction ? including pinning, stitching seams and pressing

How to sew pyjama bottoms, including drawstring and hem

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING ALONG?

2.5m of light- to medium-weight cotton fabric, eg. lawn, shirting, double gauze or quilting cotton (take a look at the right-hand column of the blog for a list of lovely fabric shops)

We?ll provide thread, tools and a sewing machine for you to use on the day. You?ll also get a goodie bag to take away with you, including a signed copy of Tilly?s book, Love at First Stitch. At the end of the class we?ll celebrate your pyjama-making prowess with a drink!

Please note: It?s a good idea to wash, dry and iron the fabric before the workshop in case it shrinks. The pyjama pattern goes up to 120cm (47in) hips ? if you need a larger size please let us know before booking.

WHO IS THE TEACHER?

Zoe Edwards is the author of the sewing blog So Zo? Having graduated with a degree in Fashion Design, Zoe went on to work in the fashion industry in various roles. The distaste she developed for mass-produced clothing and production practices fuelled her growing passion for creating her own clothing by hand and she set up a now successful sewing blog that has an emphasis on sewing sustainably with style. Currently she teaches sewing, dressmaking and refashioning skills, develops her own sewing patterns and runs a regular contemporary craft market called Brighton Craftaganza. She's also the creator of the popular online challenges called Me-Made-May, which ask sewers/knitters/crocheters/refashioners to wear their hand-created clothing every day for a month with the aim of encouraging people to bring the DIY and handmade ethos into their everyday lives.

    • Ask him politely if you can help him.  I remember staring at my old flat.  Can I help you a neighbour asked.  Yes I said, I had seen that they have split it into two flats. And we had a chat about it.   Edited to add - if they are doing this in plain site then it sounds harmless, but it would be good manners to knock on your door.  In our area there is someone well known on X that walks up and down taking pictures of anything out of the ordinary, often quite trivial, supposedly for laughs.  I could speculate who the owner could be, a creative or a gangster, but that would not be appropriate!
    • Hi. I’m looking for an Ikea ekanaset armchair in light grey fabric (now discontinued) to match one I already have. Just asking on the off chance someone is about to get rid of one!  Would need to be in good condition. Thanks.
    • Hi folks, I'm hoping it's nothing, but we've noticed a man drive up outside our house in a white Jaguar XE 2.0 (example pic below), get out, take some photos of the building work with his phone, and then drive off. We've seen him do this a couple of times over the last couple of months.  Reg BP16 UAJ. Is it anything to be concerned about? I'm hoping it's just an architect or someone interested in the design and building work...
    • So glad you found this poor little thing....  I heard that so many people tried to catch it as it was running in the road.  Well done!
