Snorky, you have some VERY weird ideas about small business owners. Of course they're in it to make money, why do you get out of your pit everyday to go to work. Also, we are all governed by the same legislations and the days of exploiting your staff in any way are long gone. Give small businesses a break you mad man(6)

I get out of my pit each day to prostitute myself to the highest bidder - I get well paid for an apallingly small amount of actual effort - Unlike many in my field, I do not have any illusions about what I do and do not dress up my position as a small cog in the big wheel of capitalism as anything but. I do not argee that the money my industry makes enriches the community and the country by my ostentatious spending on useless luxury goods, trickling down to the masses.

I have worked hard - once or twice - I didnt like it - theres no nobility in it.There is no reward in heaven and no right hand side of god to sit on.

if you want to be a shopkeeper - the same group of people who incidentally were instrumental in electing Hitler to Chancellor - then that is up to you, but please do not come out with rubbish such as community etc - Everything is secondary to ? if you run your own business - it has to be. Shopkeepers are all like the infamous Mr Krabs to a greater or lesser degree.

And therefore this part of the thread gets Lounged (I'm going to try and split it just before the minimum wage debate came in so the original question "Do any of the food shops on LL stay open after 5.30 ?" and some answers stay here)

    • I can’t seem to find the original post or person in my DMs.    in 2013/14 someone had a large wheel of string fairy lights. They were white string and there were options of warm and white lights. I hired them for (I think) £20 for the day. They listed it for hire for parties, weddings, Christmas etc. I’m not sure how long they were (50m or 100m?).   if you have something similar or were the person who listed these, I’m looking to hire again for a small event on c. Mar 17th. Easier to hire off someone rather than buy myself and store away for another 12 years.   Thank you.
    • Food not consistent at all at Plough and if not lunch menu, well going rate really…these “ children” seem to be  the problem regarding food.. others being adults hopefully more adaptable.. new thought for you, choose a restaurant/cafe etc for all of you and why not get M & S  food that can be heated up for children? I am sure if you explain to whoever you choose they will accommodate you. In this day and age, most children I know and yours are not young either, have tried and tasted most cuisines — frankly, built rod for your own backs here.. I get veggie and vegan but most east Chinese, Thai …..and of course usual cafe offerings.. Indian an acquired taste … so normally fried rice for example with veg suits most…  Really interested to find out who the lucky cafe is going to be..and where.. East Dulwich, Peckham?  Other thought is pizza…not my personal choice for a celebration meal but does cater for all your various diets… maybe you could make it special buy adding a lovely cake at the end or  in your case prob two,,
