I think this meets the tiny and irrational criteria: the use of "my" when people say things like: "I like my beer", "I love my football", "I like my curries hot".


It gets on my tits, not sure why. I think its the indication that the speaker is a true connoisseur, and wishes to transmit a sense of superior knowledge, or ownership, of something.


I like my preferences expressed less smugly.

Hang on sophiesofa, whose Mum would it be? 'Mum' is used like a name, so if you know the person referred to it's legitimate. Same for naming a friend who is mutually known to both parties:


- I saw Nigel on Friday, he's been made redundant

- Nigel who?

- You know, my friend Nigel


= bad


but


- I saw Nigel on Friday, he says hi

- Oh yeah, how's he doing?


= OK
