People crossing the road without looking. Nightmare when you're cycling. Maybe it's an urban thing - people so attuned to road noise they think they can tell when something's coming without looking - but bikes are nearly silent. Atlantic Road in Brixton is particularly bad, almost as if some people think there's a pedestrian zone between the two parts of the market. Yesterday someone walked off the pavement BACKWARDS in front of me.

The bride mostly ;-)

Afraid to say I've been guilty of this one in the past. Quickly scanning the road and not noticing an approaching cyclist. But I think (hopefully) I've learned my lesson... before both me and an unsuspecting cyclist end up in a heap on the road...

There was a lady walking down the middle of the road this morning, reading her phone messages and seemingly oblivious of where she was. I slowed down and cycled past, giving her a wide birth and she looked up and 'tsked' me!

    • Not sure why air quality came into discussion on this thread.  There are a few houses on the opposite side of the road closish to the South Circ (they all have longish front gardens).  The low level blocks of flats are set a fair way from the roads (LL and Dulwich Common).  A few other houses are on the opposite side of the road going towards Forest Hill.  It's not a densely populated area.  As said pollutant emissions from motor vehicle have reduced due to tougher standards, particularly since the VW cheating scandal when test procedures are far closer to the real world and can no longer be got round. The Mayor should also be congratulated for extending the ULEZ.  People tend to think about the outer boroughs but previously the boundary was within the North and South Circs so any old vehicle could use these roads. Anyway, just pointing out.  Not that material for the Grove Tavern.
    • But there are loads of flats next to it, and loads of houses opposite it? What would you call " not many people"?
    • Not 100% sure but I think charity shops do t pay corporation taxes .do t get charged vat on the goods they sell.also get between 60/70% rates reduction not sure about rents.
    • I was sure I had replied to this, but I must have dreamed it! I googled Victus and Bibo and found a reference to them on this  forum from years ago 😮
